Since I don't get Antenna TV, I'm going to do my own mini "Newhart" marathon. I'll be selecting one random episode from each season and watching them on New Year's Eve.

When I picked them at random, here's how my marathon will go:

Season 1: "A View from the Bench"
2: "Go, Grandma, Go"
3: "Happy Trails to You"
4: "Still the Beavers"
5: "My Two and Only"
6: "Reading, Writing, and Rating Points"
7: "The Nice Man Cometh"
8: "Beauty and the Pest"

Not me, I've never been a fan of Bob Newhart. In my opinion he is bland and totally unfunny.

LOL @ "dead air". Some people actually like Carson, but yeah I'd rather have more Newhart.

I thought he was hilarious! He worked well as a straight man responding to lunacy around him. His monotone stuttering I think just added to his comedic performance.

Bob Newhart is an acquired taste, maybe I'll watch some of the marathon and see if my opinion changes.

Regarding Johnny Carson, sometimes he can be boring, it depends on who his guests are. I like some of the 90 minute shows from the 1970's. I'm usually not interested in the 60 minute shows and seldom watch them.

Speaking of marathons, I really liked this year on New Years Day when Antenna TV ran an all day marathon of The Joey Bishop Show. Not the best show, but overall it's very good, episodes are lots of fun and I became a fan of the show from watching the marathon.

I agree about Johnny Carson. It's sort of a mixed bag. I don't mind watching him but his show really messes up the schedule. Especially if they're having a marathon, I think they should be able to pre-empt his spot.

They're contractually obligated to air him everyday, and twice a day. So they can't pre-empt him ever. It's quite a shame, his show isn't even relevant to anyone born after the 70s.
