Scariest/Most Realistic TV Dads - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

My top four would be Jack Arnold, Dan Connor, James Evans, and Carl Kanisky. There are two scenes that still give me a queasy feeling in my stomach, lol. One is from "The Wonder Years", and the other is from "Roseanne".

In the pilot episode of "The Wonder Years", Kevin gets in bad trouble at school. He throws an apple in the cafeteria and smarts off to his principal. Both his parents are called to school. Jack Arnold finally says, "I'd like to take him home now" as he is making a fist. It is definitely implied that Kevin will get a whipping when they get home. This show was SO realistic. This scene was not played for laughs. Even now as an adult, this scene takes me back to that feeling as a kid of when you had gotten in trouble, and it was consequence time. LOL

The "Roseanne" scene is when Dan Connor lectures his daughters after they had made their mother cry. They had pulled a dirty trick on her on Mother's Day. Dan lays into them big time! This too is a very realistic scene. The acting is so good that it's as if you are watching a dad discipline his real daughters. I was about 12 when I first saw this, and it felt like I was getting in trouble too, LOL.

Those are really good examples. I don’t have any of my own at the moment, I just wanted to tell you that yours were good.

IIRC, Blake Carrington wasn't too nice in the first season of O-R Dynasty in 1981 (he could be downright mean, also IIRC).
