Peugeot's hot hatch from the eighties - the 205 GTI! (This is the British model - note right-hand-drive!)
 It came very close to being offered for sale in America in the eighties, but, eh, no such luck!

The 405 sedan!
 Sold in the United States, it was expected to reverse Peugeot's fortunes here, but its poor quality, coupled with anti-French sentiment remaining from President Mitterand's disagreements with President Reagan over how to deal with terrorism, sealed Peugeot's fate in the U.S. It quit the market in 1991. |

My late grandmother (my father's mother) bought a Peugeot (known to us as a Pew-get). My father who is a master mechanic and knows all about cars, thought it was a bad buy and it will break down and be a piece of junk.
He was wrong, that car lasted many, many years without mechanical problems, and this was in rural Iowa, an environment (especially in winter) not kind to cars. |
