In the 1980s and early 1990s, I watched 1960s-1980s-era Doctor Who. Talk about low-budget special effects! I don't even think I can call most of them "special": every episode had tin foil monsters, bubble wrap aliens, cardboard Daleks, wobbly sets, and planets which looked suspiciously like quarries in Britain.

Still, I loved that show.

Definitely Doctor Who from the "classic" era. A lot of the stories don't hold up as well now, but they were made to be viewed once with a week long gap between most episodes. Now we can see an entire story at once and watch it as much as we want.

Still I think the original had a charm about it that the new version just lacks. The wobbly effects are part of that charm.

Also the original Dark Shadows made Doctor Who look high budget with rubber bats on a fishing wire and tombstones that fell over, but we loved it. They certainly never thought it would ever even be show as a repeat so all the bloopers are there. Again it kind of makes the show special.

I couldn't agree more.

I never got into Dark Shadows, but I can see it was just that kind of show, too.

Land Of The Lost. Definitely cheesy special effects for the most part. But I liked the dinosaurs even though they were obviously puppets/models LOL.

Star Trek (the original Captain Kirk series). Terrible special effects sometimes. But sometimes the story plots were even worse than the special effects themselves LOL.

Ed.
