Default Martin should have remained with Sherry.

Ronee is ok but I preferred his earlier girlfriend Sherry played by Marsha Mason, Martin should have married her instead.

Even if Marsha Mason wanted to leave the show? How does that work?

I'd never heard that Marsha Mason wanted to leave the show, and although I didn't like Sherry in regards to how she was treating Daphne (although "Daphne Hates Sherry" is my all time favorite episode), they weren't a bad couple at all and Martin seemed to have fun when he was around her.
As for Ronee, I liked her okay, but she wasn't my favorite and it makes me wonder what would have happened if Martin had ended up with Sherry. I do like Marsha Mason better than Wendie Malik.

I agree completely.

Sherry was a much better match for Martin in my opinion.

I quite agree, they had the most natural chemistry.

As great as Wendie Malick was on Hot In Cleveland, Ronnee was a real dud. She was supposed to be a singer which was kind of a joke, her singing was terrible. Her character was just lifeless.

Sherry was so down to earth and real. A pity that they didn't end up together.

Marsha Mason was pitch perfect in that part. Great casting.

I wonder why they couldn't have just brought her back.

Sherry was a great character and yes she should have remained with Martin, shame when she left the show.

Yes, Ronee really was a total bore. I didn't like her at all. I adored Sherry's antics which was perfectly matched for Martin's personality.
Martin and Sherry broke up because Sherry didn't want to get married again, but they could have had the two stay together in a committed relationship minus the marriage.
Martin and Ronee did not work at all in my opinion.

I completely disagree. I couldn't stand Sherry and love Martin with Ronee. I thought they made a cute couple.

I liked Sherry much better. Does anyone know why Marsha Mason left the show?

I agree. Sherry could have been toned down through the series or they could have revived her in season 10 or 11.
