TV Peacock Picks Up "Mr. Mercedes"

"Mr. Mercedes" Renewed for Season 2 at AT&T Audience Network
by Dave Nemetz
Oct. 10, 2017

"Mr. Mercedes" isn’t out of gas yet: AT&T Audience Network has renewed the crime drama for a second season, TVLine has learned.

Showrunner David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) and director Jack Bender (Game of Thrones) are slated to return for the 10-episode sophomore season as well, the network said in a statement. Production on Season 2 will start in February, with the season debuting later next year.

Based on the bestselling Stephen King novel, "Mr. Mercedes" centers on a cat-and-mouse game between psychotic killer Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadway) and retired detective Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson).

The novel Mr. Mercedes was actually the first book in a trilogy by King featuring the Bill Hodges character, so Season 2 will take inspiration from the trilogy’s other books, Finders Keepers and End of Watch.

King serves as an executive producer on the series.

Haven't seen the series, but I'm assuming the second season will be based on the second book of the trilogy?

"Mr. Mercedes" Renewed for Season 3 at AT&T Audience Network
by Denise Petski
November 19, 2018

On the heels of the Season 2 finale, AT&T Audience Network has ordered a 10-episode third season of its critically praised drama series "Mr. Mercedes", from Sonar Entertainment.

Production is scheduled to begin in early 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina, on the Stephen King adaptation, with the premiere launching later in the year.

Mr. Mercedes has resonated with such a wide audience, so we’re thrilled to bring it back for a third season for our customers,” said Daniel York, senior executive vice president and chief content officer for AT&T.

David E. Kelley, Jack Bender and Sonar have crafted a series that honors the original work by Stephen King and we can’t wait to see where they take the show in a ‘post-Mr. Mercedes world.’”

AT&T Audience Network has been a great partner and we are delighted to continue this journey with them,” said Tom Lesinski, CEO, Sonar Entertainment. “We look forward to the new storylines the outstanding creative team will be developing.

Kind of weird how they're doing it, the second season was based on the third book. I guess it's because, unlike the second book, the third book brings the villain of the first book Brady back to the forefront. So for the show it was a way to continue Brady's story line from beginning to finish without a gap.
