Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor is getting a welcome as big as the inside of the TARDIS.

EW can announce exclusively that "Doctor Who‘s" upcoming Christmas special, “Twice Upon a Time,” is coming to U.S. movie theaters for one night only. The episode — which bids farewell to Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor and introduces Whittaker as the first woman to play the role — will be shown in theaters nationwide on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. local time.

Following the screening, two exclusive bonus pieces will take audiences behind the scenes of the holiday special and celebrate the tenures of Capaldi, who has led the series since 2013, and exiting showrunner Steven Moffat.

The holiday special promises to bring together a number of Doctors; in addition to Capaldi and Whittaker, "Game of Thrones‘" David Bradley will appear as the First Doctor, a role originated by the late William Hartnell when the long-running sci-fi series premiered in 1963.

“Twice Upon a Time” also brings back Pearl Mackie as Bill, the Doctor’s latest companion. Mark Gatiss (Moffat’s Sherlock co-creator, who has also written for Doctor Who) guest stars.

“’Twice Upon a Time’ will mark the 16th cinema event we have presented in partnership with BBC Worldwide North America,” Fathom Events VP of Programming Kymberli Frueh said in a statement.

“Our Doctor Who events are the perfect opportunities for Whovians to meet up, giving them a chance to enjoy their favorite content together in a big screen setting.”

“The regeneration of the Doctor is a must see event for Doctor Who fans around the world,” said Sergei Kuharsky, EVP Franchise and Digital Enterprises, BBC Worldwide North America.

“And who wouldn’t want to watch the historic emergence of Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor on the big screen?”

Tickets for Doctor Who: Twice Upon a Time will be available beginning Friday, Oct. 20, and can be purchased by visiting FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices.
