Default Today is LITB's 60th anniversary

Today marks 60 years from LITB's premiere! How will you celebrate?

By recalling that's it's ALSO Sputnik's 60th Anniversary and considering how ironic that BOTH iconic items were launched on the VERY SAME DAY -yet Sputnik sputtered out and crashed within months (and the Soviet Union did the same some 30 years later) while LITB is STILL airing places.

Why would I not be surprised if Ward somehow blamed Beav for Sputnik? LOL

Happy 60th Anniversary to an Iconic show.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

I can't believe this show is 60 years old. Quality shows will remain relevant and entertaining long after their original runs, and LITB is one of them.

Leave It To Beaver is one of those shows that's been more popular in syndication compared to it's original run.

The complete series DVD from Shout Factory is good, although they made an error with the opening teasers of the season 1 episodes. I ended up keeping my season 1 set from Universal because everything is correct on that one.

LITB is a show that is fun to watch and I probably shouldn't say this here but I think the first 4 seasons of the Andy Griffith Show are far superior and much more believable in acting and writing. Andy and Barney were brilliant.

To me, the shows are of an equal level of quality. LITB did material about kids better than any other show. Whenever TAGS did kid-centered plots it seemed forced. Ultimately the focus of both shows was different; each was excellent in its own way.

I have to agree about the Opie issues being forced but still love the baby birds episode, Mr. McBeevee and Opie's Hobo Friend. There are a few more and Opie sure was cute.

Wow today was the 61st anniversary? I did see Beaver today but only the one when Beaver called Ken a cheat. “I guess I had a few too many, you know how that is?”

Beaver: No I don’t know.
