McDonald's Brings Back Szechuan Sauce after "Rick and Morty" Reference
by Christian Holub Oct 2, 2017 Like most Dan Harmon productions, "Rick and Morty" is replete with constant references to pop culture esoterica. Earlier this year, the Adult Swim cartoon’s season 3 premiere delivered a masterstroke example of this tendency with an extended digression about Szechuan sauce, a special chicken nugget dipping sauce that McDonald’s once issued for a limited time as promotion for the Disney animated film Mulan. The bit inspired the show’s devoted fans to pressure McDonald’s to bring back the sauce. Chef Mike Haracz, who is listed as the “manager of culinary innovation” at McDonald’s, tweeted at "Rick and Morty" co-creator Justin Roiland on Sunday that their prayers had been answered. “Your fans showed us what they got, now we got to bring it back. Super limited-run Szechuan Sauce, only on 10/7!” Haracz included a link to a website announcing new “Buttermilk Crispy Tenders” from McDonald’s — but more importantly, the site announces that McDonald’s will indeed be bringing back Szechuan sauce to limited restaurants for one day only on Oct. 7, along with colorful posters representing each of the 10 sauces McDonald’s has used over the years, including Szechuan sauce. http://ew.com/tv/2017/10/02/mcdonald...ce-rick-morty/ |

ah - but the joke is on HIM, because all we Rick & Morty fans have to do is use our time machine to go back to that day so we can have their special Szechuan sauce any time we WANT.

I loved that sauce when McDonald's first introduced it when they did a promotion on Mulan and it was so tasty and it's awesome that McDonald's is bringing it back in honor of Rick And Morty. I think that if it is successful McDonald's will become partners with Cartoon Network to produce Cartoon Network Happy Meals someday
Would that be a smart idea? Bestie |

They already make cartoon network happy meals and have for years. Just this year they have already done powerpuff girls, teen titans go, and Im sure others. They definitely will not be making adult swim happy meals however.
Cant wait to see how many people will be hoarding this sauce. Stupid to bring it back for only one day, at least make it a week or something. And Im pretty sure it will not be carrying the "Mulan" part to the sauce (unless its technically not copywritten by Disney since it is based off of a historical legend.... sure they dont want to press their luck though) |

McDonald's is giving away 1 sauce container per person, but it's likely that people will be traveling to different locations for more. |

"We Want Sauce!": Police Called after McDonald's "Rick and Morty" Promotion Heats Up
by Anna Livsey Oct. 8, 2017 A McDonald’s public relations stunt has ended in chaos and acrimony after the fast food chain promised fans of the TV show "Rick and Morty" a limited edition, long out of production Szechuan dipping sauce and then swiftly ran out. Police were called to at least one outlet after people in queues for the sauce began getting angry and chanting “we want sauce!” Fans of "Rick and Morty", a hugely popular US science fiction cartoon that riffs off the Back to the Future films, descended on McDonald’s restaurants in cities across the US on Saturday after the chain announced it would be selling a limited run of a long out-of-production Szechuan dipping sauce that is referenced in the show’s third season. However, things turned sour when fans, who according reports had queued for hours in some places, were told there was no more sauce. While at a restaurant in Newark, angry customers held up protest signs to demand the sauce they had come for. In some parts of the US, fans encountered stores that had not received the promised sauce and staff who were not aware of the promotion. In other places, stores reportedly only got 20 packets of sauce. McDonald’s, which in its press release for the promotion said that the sauce release would be “really, really limited”, has apologised to fans that missed out. "The best fans in the multiverse showed us what they got today. We hear you & we're sorry not everyone could get some super-limited Szechuan." Ultimately, the fallout from the stunt did not dampen demand for the sauce, with packets and limited-edition posters currently listed for hundreds of dollars on Ebay. https://www.theguardian.com/business...otion-heats-up |

so, the greatest minds in the universe, time machines and a trans-dimensional portal gun were all bested by McDonald's lack of planning and parsimony.

McDonald's Szechuan Sauce Will Return this Winter after "Rick & Morty" Fan Revolt
by Christopher Rosen Oct. 8, 2017 "Rick & Morty" fans burned by the limited supply of McDonald’s Szechuan sauce released on Saturday will have their day come this winter. Late Sunday, the fast-food chain released a statement promising to bring back the limited-edition sauce again at a date to be determined. The creators of "Rick and Morty" want their legions of frustrated sauce-seeking fans to know they are “not happy” with how the Golden Arches handled the rather golden publicity opportunity the Adult Swim series inadvertently handed them this summer. Co-creator Justin Roiland tweeted, "FYI: We had nothing to do with this McDonald's stuff. Not happy w/how this was handled. Please be cool to the employees it's not their fault" http://ew.com/tv/2017/10/08/mcdonald...ce-rick-morty/ |

Supposedly it tastes NOTHING like the original szechaun sauce and the limited edition artwork used was not done by Rick and Morty staff nor authorized by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland

"Rick and Morty" Fans Rejoice! Szechuan Sauce Returning to McDonald's
by Nick Romano Feb. 22, 2018 The powers that be at McDonald’s severely underestimated the blood lust "Rick and Morty" fans had for “The Sauce,” a.k.a. the tangy Szechuan sauce from the 1990s. They don’t intend to make that mistake again. Starting Monday, Feb. 26, the golden arches will again serve Szechuan sauce across all U.S. locations — and this time there will be a supply of 20 million packets. “We did not anticipate the overnight crowds, the cross-state travel and the amazing curiosity, passion and energy fans showed,” read a statement from McDonald’s. “Our super-limited batch, though well-intentioned, clearly wasn’t near enough to meet that demand. We disappointed fans and we are sorry.” More info. can be found at https://www.wewantthesauce.com/ http://ew.com/tv/2018/02/22/rick-and...uce-mcdonalds/ |

I have been dying to buy some McDonald's Chicken McNuggets this week just so I can try some Szechuan Sauce on them. The Szechuan Sauce was one of my favorite sauces to dip my Chicken McNuggets on and it was so awesome. I hope to go to McDonald's maybe tomorrow so I can get some. I wonder if Rick And Morty can do more promotions with McDonald's in the future because it's a popular cartoon that everyone watches

Its not a promotion with Rick and Morty and the sauce is entirely different from the 90s version. |
