I'd rather have Archie hands down. Archie had his faults, but he was a good father in many respects. He worked hard and provided for his family. He loved Gloria, and they had a special relationship. He seemed to be an involved father when she was growing up: feeding her, changing her, walking her to school, etc. Archie had his ignorant ways, but he wasn't evil or mean-spirited. There's no way he would have ever condoned a black family being brutalized or hurt. He was harmless. When it came right down to it, he always ended up doing the right thing.
Mike wasn't a bad guy either. However, he wasn't the family man that Archie was. Once Mike got through college bumming off of Archie and Gloria's money, then he basically became selfish. It was all about him. He talked down to Gloria, Archie, and Edith because they didn't have his level of education. He seemed to forget that those three helped him get the education. He wasn't very involved in Joey's raising, nothing like Archie was with Gloria. Then he ends up totally abandoning his family to go live in a commune. |

Neither one is truly endearing, but if I must pick it'd be Archie.
At least Archie is real, not a smug phony like Michael. And when someone is right out there, you can still find a way to deal with them. |

If either one of those punks were my father I'd disown them!

Archie, my dad was kind of a cross between Archie Bunker & Sgt. Carter from Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. so I'd feel right at home with Archie.

As obnoxious as Mike can sometimes be, at least he is smart. Archie is an idiot. So my vote would go to Mike.

Despite his faults, Archie was, in his own way, a good man. He never beat up anyone.

All in all, I'd vote Archie - while he was bigoted, he truly cared about his family (as evident by Gloria's love for him).
Mike on the other hand, didn't even want to be a dad until Joey was conceived |

I don't think he would have participated in a material "hands on" fashion, but I don't think he would have intervened in opposition to "the pack", if he was significantly outnumbered, either. I can see him slipping around the corner feeling helpless to stop "the evil ways of the world" Just my take. |

I would like to change my vote from two years ago. I never saw much of Archie Bunker's Place so I did not know that Mike abandoned his family so he could live in a wacky commune. Now that I know this, I change my vote to Archie.

Archie was wrong on a lot of issues, but you knew where you stood with him.
Mike could be slimy. I've worked with people similar to Mike's philosophies. They say that they're team players and then you find out that they step on anybody's toes if they are in the way. Mike was only loyal to himself. |

Archie. The Meathead was a wimp and he would of turned me into a wimp and turned my sister into a tree-hugging whore.

Seeing as how I am in the LGBTQ, I would pick Mike. I've had to put up with an ignorant, unaccepting father all my life

Mike always looked down upon Archie's bigotry and his conservative views, but Mike never lived up to the SJW that he portrayed himself to be. In many episodes Mike treats Gloria very badly and uses his own liberal views to justify his own bigotry. Mike talked the talk, but never walked the walk.
