Sara Gilbert Says That Now was "The Right Time" to Bring Back "Roseanne"
Sara Gilbert on "Roseanne" Reboot: "It Felt Like the Right Time to Bring this Working Class Family Back on TV"
by Maureen Lee Lenker September 6, 2017 We have Sara Gilbert and "The Talk" to thank for the revival of "Roseanne". The actress and talk show co-host revealed that it was John Goodman’s March appearance on "The Talk", in which he and Gilbert reprised their "Roseanne" roles and talked about the possibility of reviving the series, that really got the creative wheels turning. “I had been talking personally in my own life about, Is it possible? Oh, maybe it would just have to be a spin-off, probably everybody wouldn’t do it,” Gilbert said Wednesday during a Facebook Live interview with EW. “Then John came on and said, ‘Hell yeah,’ or whatever he said, and then I had a moment where I thought, Oh wow, maybe everybody will do this.” Gilbert tells EW that she spearheaded the upcoming revival of the sitcom, but that it was “ripe to be spearheaded.” When she approached the original cast members, they all said ‘yes’ in what she calls a “magical” experience. “It felt like the right time to put this working class family on TV,” she said. “That’s a voice that’s not been spoken for enough in this country and we feel hopefully that we can be a uniting force in that way.” When probed about further details of the series, Gilbert was coy, telling viewers to “tune in and see what happens” with how the the 1997 series finale death of Dan is handled — though she did confirm that Goodman will be on the show and Dan is still alive. She also teased the potential return of Johnny Galecki, who portrayed Darlene’s boyfriend and husband David Healy, but has since risen to even greater prominence on CBS’ "The Big Bang Theory". “We’re in very productive talks and we are hopeful that it will work out,” Gilbert said about the prospect of his appearance on "Roseanne", which belongs to rival network ABC. http://ew.com/tv/2017/09/06/sara-gil...ot-right-time/ |
