One of the Ohio Prostitute Killer's Victims Has Been Identified!

If you've seen the UM segment on the Ohio prostitute serial killer, you'll remember that it starts out mentioning a female victim who was found beaten to death behind a truck stop in Licking County, Ohio on April 19, 1990. She could not be identified, but it looks they've finally figured out who she is:

DNA testing has identified the victim as 29-year old Patrice Corley from Louisville, Kentucky. Apparently, she was never officially reported missing until last October, which is why it's taken this long to ID her. We still don't know who her killer is, but it's good to know they've solved one part of this mystery.

It's great to see them still investigating, and making progress in, some of these truly old cases. Thanks for the update!

I know some of us saw this with the Lori Erica Ruff case, but it still boggles my mind how families do not file reports until decades later (if at all).

I understand the general consensus may be that the missing individual is a prostitute/drug addict, and that they may be living a transient lifestyle. But obviously if you haven't heard from a family member in over five years, something has to be wrong.

The picture with the Dispatch story is eerily similar to the composite shown on Unsolved Mysteries (as it should be, but it's quite noticeable).

Sometimes reporting a person with a transient lifestyle missing can be a major headache. I know the mother of Jason Callahan ("Grateful Doe") wanted to report him missing after not hearing from him for awhile, but couldn't figure out which jurisdiction to file the report in since she didn't know where he was last seen. In some cases, the police won't even bother filing the report because the victim is an adult and can legally disappear if they want. Though I do wonder what suddenly compelled Patrice Corley's family to finally report her missing 26 years after the fact.

This is the 3rd Ohio Truck Stop Killer victim identified in the past 7 years. Paula Beverly Davis (found in August 1987) was identified in February 2010, and Sharon Lynn Kedzierski (found April 9, 1992) was identified in February 2013. I believe this leaves only Buckskin Girl as the only unidentified victim?

I found out today all of the victims have been ID'd. I know the Buckskin girl was identified as Marcia King in 2018. Her murder was in 1981. Her murder reminds me of dawn Marie birnbaum who was a young victim of James Robert Cruz and also a strangulation, yet that was in 1993, 12 years later. James R. Cruz would have been 23 or 24 when Marcia King was killed. age wise not out of the question.

I have been to that truck stop in Licking County where Patrice Corley was murdered (or her body was found there). the segment opens with Patrice's body being found. at that time it was unknown who she was. the truckstop nearest to where her body was found is featured in the segment and they show the "truckomat" neon sign. I remember seeing the truckomat sign from the freeway when I would drive by there. I wonder if Patrice was abducted and murdered there or if she was abducted somewhere else.

it seems as if there were multiple victims from the Austintown union 76 truck stop, where there was credible evidence that there was someone using the handle Dr. No to pick up and abuse prostitutes. Samuel Legg who is now featured in the UM update, was linked by DNA with the 1992 murder of Sharon Lynn Kedzierski. not sure if it was the same truckstop, but it was also in austintown. I think Legg was too young to have committed the Dr. No murders. there were multiple murderers at that one location. it was known for rampant prostitution.

Going back to Cruz. Federal investigators believed that he was responsible for many of the Ohio truck stop murders as the murders stopped after he was arrested. he fits as a good "Dr No" suspect because of his age and somewhat fits the middle eastern description that was once given. he also lived in Columbiana county Ohio which is very close to the union 76 truck stop in Austintown. he had the ability to drive long distances and could have dumped the bodies in different jurisdictions as he did with Dawn Marie. Cruz's wife also reports that he was abusive. He also displayed unusual behavior and would hide out in their shed. he acquired female jewelry and trinkets that he would give away to his daughters after returning from road trips. he made comments to his wife about locations being good places to dump a body. I think cruz is arguably the best "dr. no" suspect.
