Skippy should have been in 1987 - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I remember one of Alex friends (Greg I believe), was killed off in a car accident. Alex was despondent, and the episode was about grieving. However, the show lacked something. I could not really relate to Greg, as he was a one time appearance character. They should have killed off Skippy.

It would have gotten huge ratings. Skippy was also a secondary character, who could have been replaced. Also, if the writers had produced an episode of Skippy committing suicide, it would have been great for mental health awareness.

Skippy could have written in his suicide note that he was despondent about being rejected by every woman in his life. Mallory, his biological mother, that 45 year old woman who he meets off a dating service. He was also ridiculed by peers and went AWOL from the army. The show could have written itself by then.

Ah, Poor Skippy!

I wouldn't have wanted him to killed but I thought it was so lame that the heretofore unseen and unspoken of Greg had such an impact on Alex's life that he would torture himself (and the audience) with those schmaltzy monologues.

Am I the only one here who cringed at A, My Name is Alex? Anyway, here is an article about it.

That would have been horrible!!

I'd hate to see Skippy be killed off!!

He was my favorite character in the show, such a nice, sweet, fun guy ! It would have been so sad if he died!

Yes, that would have been too much sturm und drang for such a comic character, it wouldn't have been anything but a bummer.

Skippy had a sister we saw a couple of times, maybe they could have saved that story line for her and have Jennifer feel very guilty because she was a friend that she neglected.

Then again, maybe we should just stick with Aunt Gertie.

Yes, but I felt sad for all of them.

The birth mother who gave him life, the Handleman's whose feelings Skippy disregarded and of course Irwin himself who didn't have the dream reunion he was expecting. Also the fact that they kept his adoption secret.

No, killing off Skippy would have been awful. He was a great character.

now, if they had killed off Nick, that would have be just fine. Of course, Alex wasn't close to Nick, lol.

That episode was so precious and ridiculous, frankly. To have an episode about the death of Alex's "best friend", whom we've never seen or heard about in the previous five seasons, is just dramatically lazy. Like an episode of Bonanza or Little House.

And Family Ties seemed to forget it was a comedy with this Very Special Episode.
