I just watched a video on You Tube explaining how fans of "THE FUGITIVE" were so outraged when this series was released on DVD with all the music replaced that they re-released it with all the music intact.

Music is a big problem with old TV shows. No one thought 30+ years in the future when they licensed music for the original episodes. Now you have DVDs where music can't be used without re-licensing, and certain episodes that sometimes can't be shown in syndication, because the licensing has expired.
Fortunately, many shows used music composed exclusively for the particular show, or used music in public domain. |

The Wikipedia article recaps all the music issues with the DVD releases of The Fugitive, near the end of the article. It was finally resolved when the whole series came out on DVD, was recalled due to music issues, and was ultimately reissued with the original music intact.
Earlier in the article, it's explained that the music score was composed by Pete Rugolo. But only a fraction of the music in the show was this composed score--the rest of it was library music (this would be the material where most of the licensing problems would be). |
