In the first season of FOL, Blair mentions both Tumpy and Kedgie Barksdale, presumably sisters. Then in "Dope", we meet Tumpy.
At the end of "Dope", Mr. Bradley states that Tumpy and "her roommates" have been expelled, but there's no mention of Kedgie. The third girl in Tumpy's room is never named, and Blair doesn't seem to know her, just Tumpy and Emily (Helen Hunt). The room itself doesn't seem to be very big, and it only has one bed that we can see. There could be beds off on the other side, but it would be quite crowded; hardly the space you'd expect in a posh girls' school. Do you think the third girl is Kedgie? If not, what happened to her? She's never mentioned again, that I can think of. Alternately, is it possible that Kedgie is a nickname for Emily? |

Since this episode was the season finale, I would have written it so that Nancy, Sue Ann, Cindy, and Molly were all buds with Tumpy and smoking pot. Then they get expelled at the end. That would have set the stage for the revamp.

But then we would have missed getting to see the Lost Girls in "The New Girl, Part 2", "Gossip", "Sex Symbol", "Pretty Babies", "Dear Me", "Front Page", "Green Eyed Monster", and possibly also "The Little Chill" (because why bother returning to a school you were expelled from?). So I'd be against that particular storyline. I would have liked to have seen more of the Lost Girls, not less.

I would have been ok with that. Cindy was a non-entity, and I couldn't stand Sue Ann with her terrible, unnatural line readings and big horseteeth.

Retro, I always just kind of felt that Kedgie was Tumpy's older sister. Or, if you want to say she attended Eastland, perhaps she was just in a different dorm, and didn't go the pot route (or at least never got caught!).

Cindy was the tomboy, the athlete; definitely an entity. Nancy was the most nondescript of the girls, and the only hook they really gave her was Roger (which was an entertaining one, sure, but it's sad they didn't solidify her character more).I do, however, agree with you about Julie's line readings as Sue Ann. Sometimes she makes me cringe, but I do admit sometimes she actually does a good job. But she's sure not consistent. Quote:

*UPDATE* - I just checked at YT and it's not KCBC, nor is it WAI. But Cindy and Nancy mingle in a scene of one episode (Cindy with a cup of punch), so I'll have to research to find which one it is. Quote:
But it's his original point that stands; Julie P. really did do terrible line readings, and often; she's so jarring that she easily stands out as the worst, and so consistently that I'm surprised they cast her for the show. I can tolerate a little awkward reading here or there, but she is by far the worst and the only one that makes me cringe (I know this sounds cruel, I'm just saying how honestly her bad acting gets to me). I think Sue Ann was a great character, but Julie really needed some lessons more than any of them. When I see Charlotte say in interviews that "all the girls were so talented" I'm shaking my head and thinking, "Really, Charlotte? Do you remember Julie P.?" As for Lisa laughing that Mindy kept "laughing at her own jokes", technically she didn't, but her humorous reaction did actually worked for the character IMO. Rather than "laughing" she just grinned really big when she delivered some of her punchlines. It never made sense to me why Lisa would criticize that (however endearingly), because as I see it, it is actually in character; she's the "class clown", and, of course, class clowns think they're funny! lol...so of course they're going to bask in their humor...silly Lisa ![]() |

The Julies brought a lot to the show with their enthusiasm (mostly Julie Pie), their gymnastics (Julie Anne), their film background (Julie Anne), their Disney experience (Julie Pie), etc. And all four Lost Girls, after the first season, provided a great deal of continuity to the show. Aside from Terry, Miko, and Alexandra, there simply were no other girls who appeared even semi-regularly as Eastland students, and both Miko and Alex were limited to just two appearances each. What kind of school has only four regular students? In another thread, TV Guy mentions that there should have been background students in the S1 cafeteria; I agree. But then in this thread, he states the Lost Girls should have been gone after S1, when we'd be losing that exact same type of continuity: the fact that we should be seeing other girls at this school. Also, I think I used to picture her name as "Keggie". I've never known a Keggie or a Kedgie so it would be nice if we got a copy of the script, lol (and also interesting to see how they close caption it).

So, I based my spelling of "Kedgie" on the spelling that others have used, such as Becky the Writer. But "Keggie" looks wrong to me anyway. Did you really know a Kedgie? |
