In the 90's The Family Channel launched Family Challenge which featured teams of families doing different types of stunts while trying to win the famous Family Challenge Cup at the end. Family Challenge was also the final game show of Ray Combs who died in the middle of the first season and also featured legendary game show announcer Gene Wood as the announcer of Family Challenge. In it's second season Family Challenge was retitled The All-New Family Challenge and replacing Ray Combs was Michael Burger and had a new announcer by the name of Charlie Glaize. Another thing about Family Challenge was that when The All-New Family Challenge debuted it was filmed outdoors in a outdoor studio in Universal Studios Florida. It would be nice to see game shows like Family Challenge being made today because it would be great to watch

Hi, Bestie! I saw the first one, I did not see the second one. We do need game shows that include the family. You are right.

I'm pretty sure that both seasons of "Family Challenge" were filmed at Universal Studios California. Universal Studios in Florida was Nickelodeon Country at the time.
I watched this show quite a bit during it's first run in 1995-1997 on Family Channel and then in reruns on GSN around the year 2000. The first season was better than the second simply because I think Michael Burger just did the show for the $. Whereas I think Combs really wanted to try to use FC as his comeback tool. Sadly, Combs committed suicide just 6 days after doing a live Memorial Day broadcast of "Family Channel." This show helped fill a void for those of us who missed out of most of the years when Nickelodeon would produce new episodes of "Family Double Dare," That show went off the air in February 1993, existing in just reruns on Nick until late 1997. DD went on the air in 1986, I was just born in that year. Didn't watch DD until it's second to last season in 1991. |
