What are you learning in your math/algebra/whatever class?
We're doing parabolas at the moment. Fun times...actually they are kinda fun. |

Umm... we just finished the quadratic formula... eek...
I had a test on it though yesterday -- got a 98, so it wasn't that bad!(Or maybe it's just because my algebra teacher makes really easy tests... either one) |

well...here is what we just did....my math program is different and its not offered at all schools...
In the process, students are introduced to the normal distribution and the standard deviation as tools for determining whether a change in one variable really does affect another. They make and refine conjectures, analyze data collected from experiments, and use graphing calculators to learn about quadratic equations and to explore curve fitting. Finally, after deriving a theoretical answer to the problem, students actually build a 30-foot pendulum to test their theory. heres what we just started This unit opens with the question "How can you predict the length of a shadow?" Students experiment with flashlights to isolate the important variables and try to predict the length of the shadow in terms of one of those variables. In order to understand shadows and the data they have found, students need to learn some geometry. Students work with a variety of concrete objects to come to an understanding of similar polygons, especially similar triangles. They then return to the problem of the shadow, applying their knowledge of similar triangles and using informal methods for solving proportions to develop a general formula. In the last part of the unit, students learn about the three primary trigonometric functions—sine, cosine, and tangent—as they are defined for acute angles, and apply these functions to problems of finding heights and distances. (i found it from a site bout it...hehe) |

Hmm.. in geometry we're doing a lot of algebra review, like the equations of lines and finding slopes and finding the magnitude of a vector and all that stuff. We did most of it in algebra last year, though. After this we'll do constructions and loci, and then it's end of year exams (eek!).

I haven't had Math for a year and a half. At my school we only have to have 3 math credits to graduate.

Rational expressions. We've had to find the domain, simply, add, subtract, multipy, and divide them... they're hard. And Amy...... parabolas arent fun.. lol

lets all sing the quadratic formula song!!
*singing to the music of the Notre Dame fight song* x equals the opposite of b! plus or minus square root of.. b squared minus 4 a c all over 2 times a! They sing that to us at my school... haha its funny and it made it really easy to remember. |

In Geometry we are currently learning how to determine images and preimages and what they preserve, how you determine they are equal, and what not. I don't know for sure, but I have two weeks until semester exams and I'll have to dig back to the deepest cavern of my brain and attempt to recall everything my teacher attempted to teach me over these past 18-20 weeks. Wow, that outta be a piece of cake

and finding the vertix and graphing it and all... |

HEY!! That's to the tune of our school song!! *sings* Stand up Troy and sing loyalty! Raise up your voices, shout victory! Sound the Trojan cheers on high! Shake down the thuder from the sky!! -ahem- I'm done. I know the formula without singing the song. And yes, Jeff, parabolas are fun.
