Default Fan's of Seasons 6-8

Back when Nick At Nite was Nick At Nite, a preference poll on Bewitched was done, the question which Darrin was your favorite. The thing that shocked me was not that 87% voted for Darrin number 1 (Dick York), but that 13%actually voted for Darrin number 2 (Dick Sargent). I couldn't believe it.

With that as the set up I was looking at a post from vitoscotti here's what was said that shocked me; " I love the color episodes with Helen. I don't think she gets enough credit for what she added comedically ,and with her stunning beauty to the show". I don't agree, but it did get me to thinking:

Is there anyone out there who actually prefers seasons 6-8 over seasons 1-5?

I'm not asking if you liked seasons 6-8, or think they are not as bad as people think, I'm asking, can anyone actually make a cogent argument that seasons 6-8 were better than seasons 1-5.

IMO, 6-8 don't hold a candle to 1-5. Without Don Knotts, the chemistry of the cast changed.

I don't think you're going to find a true fan of the show that will argue for that the last 3 seasons are superior to the ones with Barney. I like seasons 6-8 because there were more story lines about Aunt Bee. The trip to Mexico episode really captures the essence of hating the people you choose to spend time with on a trip. Excellent episode.

I don't hate 6-8 either. I just prefer 1-5 better. I do think there are some funny episodes in 6-8 just not as many. The show did hit #1 it's final season (1968).

Truthfully, I never liked Don Knotts. I prefer the show without him!!!

They all seem fine to me. sometimes I like the color episodes more than the B&W, other times I like the B&W more than the color. Sometimes the minor characters get on my nerves, sometimes they don't. I mostly disliked the Howard character, and the Floyd character because they always seemed annoying. Sometimes they don't bother me at all. Sometimes Barney seemed over the top stupid, other times he seemed over the top stupid.

I don't think the color episodes are as objectionable as many people think they are. I do think the show should have done all they could to keep Don Knotts (of course, they may have).

I certainly couldn't make an argument that the color seasons are better.

Disliked Floyd the barber? That's a first in my lifetime.

I imagine that the immediate families of the cast and crew were fans of those seasons because the show's continuing existence meant steady, reliable incomes.

In the twilight months of the IMDB messageboards, there was a poster who was very vocal about the fact that he preferred the colored seasons for the following reasons:
1. The B&W episodes were racist and sexist
2. Andy was a child beater
3. Barney Fife was an unwelcomed annoying nuisance and Goober did a better comic relief job in the color episodes.
4. The show would not be open about Aunt Bea being a lesbian and Floyd being Gay
5. The Morals of the Colored Episodes were a lot better than the Black and White ones
6. Andy was a much more mature and realistic character in the Colored episodes than he was in Black and White.

While I wish I could say that he was just looking to get everyone on the board angry, I have sadly encountered a few people who share some of his sentiments. I think what it boils down to is that if you're the kind of person who just goes looking for stuff to take out of context so you can call it bad with your 21st century eyes.

Tags and other classic shows are are a break from today's craziness. They can be watched over and over again and never get old.

There was actually a post by someone who didn't like Barney Fife.

IMDb used to have a ignore user thing.

The one where Emmett buys the mink coat was on my local channel a couple of days ago, one of many color favorites of mine.
