Ahead of ABC’s eight-episode revival, Amazon has nabbed the rights to Roseanne‘s original 1988-1997 run, with all nine seasons becoming available to Prime members later this month, Variety reports. As part of a pact with distributor FilmRise, Amazon has also secured the exclusive streaming rights to 3rd Rock From the Sun, A Different World, Cybill, Grace Under Fire and Grounded for Life.

I was really looking forward to this. Unfortunately, it seems they are using syndicated versions (each episode runs less than 22 minutes) and are forcing it into a letterbox format. They also use shortened opening credits. In at least one episode, you could hear the original longer opening start, then they abruptly switched to the shortened version.

You're right, the opening credits look really weird. Sometime the episodes will switch from letterboxed to full frame and back again within a matter of seconds. As someone who's watched this series on dvd multiple times I can easily spot all the cuts where a missing scene should be taking place. However, I still find it convenient when I need to kill half an hour before leaving the house to instantly put on one of my favorite episodes.
