Andy Kaufman had this thing where he would wrestle women as the "Intergender champion". Personally, I found this to be very crude, but he did it for entertainment.
Why couldn't any woman beat him? It seems to me that a lot of women could. Women in the military for one thing. Since this is a sitcom board, I think a younger Bea Arthur, who is a lot bigger than Kaufman who was trained in the Marines could have kicked his ass completely. Not to dwell on Ms. Arthur, but someone similar to her but younger. There are lots of women I would not want to get into a tussle with. I will go as far as to say a 50-ish Arthur could have beaten him. I think Kaufman picked women he knew he could beat and did not choose those that really could. This was my problem with kaufman, I think the man was really weird and this spectcle was clearly misogynistic. But I think a lot of women who have been in the military or strong women who did hard work could have wiped the floor with him. So why did this never happen, except that Kaufman was wise to stop before he did get beat? As an aside, I am from Memphis, when Kaufman came there to our wrestling show, but that was all fake. This wasnt (supposedly) fake. |
