Filming Location Errors - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

In Season 7, I have noticed 2 cases that were not filmed where they originally took place.

Gordon Page- the scene where Gordon steals the delivery truck and takes it for a ride. In the background scenary it looks NOTHING like Michigan with Mountains and plenty of tropical Southern California green.

Randall Utterback- the car chase scene between Randall and his ex-girlfriend looks nothing like Missouri which is mostly flat with a few rolling hills. This particular scene was shot in a valley with mountains in the background. You can also see a few palm trees (although they are more hidden then in the Gordon Page segment)

The reasoning for not shooting on location are: tight budgets (ratings for UM sharply dropped from Season 5 to 6 to 7) tight production schedules, inability to get filming permits for particular scenes (car chases, car wrecks)

I noticed this too in Season 5: Becky Terry, where she is entering the Middle School and in the background there is a HUGE Palm Tree. (Becky attended Middle School in Ohio, no palm trees there.)

Also, in Season 6: Walter Rice, as the Camera is panning away from his trailer you can see Southern California Mountains in the background. (Walter Rice's trailer is supposed to be in Central-West South Carolina, no mountains there.)

If you have any other cases that were not shot in the right location, please add them to this thread.

Frasier was not filmed in Seattle. It was filmed in California instead.

I am talking about cases from "Unsolved Mysteries" not other TV shows.

I don't think it was really that necessary to travel to film many of the lost love segments. Especially since many of them involved going 20, 30, 40 years back in time. All they had to do was a tell a story and give the last known whereabouts for the person they were looking for.

Likewise, the Gordon Page segment (which still breaks my heart), the parents no longer lived in Michigan. They lived in Florida. The production crew probably didn't see a point in flying 2,000 miles just to film a 20 second scene where Gordon steals the guy's truck.

Don't even get me started on the Zodiac segment. Lake Berryessa attack in the reenactment has them picnicking in the middle of the woods. In reality they were at the edge of a lake in an open area, save for a single tree.

The reenactment looks like they got lost on the way to the real location and just found a wooded area along the side of the freeway and stopped to film there. Turn the camera around and there is probably an Arby's parking lot.
