Default Unemployed Characters

Just curious how many we can come up with. I count being a housewife as employment, btw. Full time student? Very commendable, but still technically unemployed. And the list applies only to adults.

I'll start:

Mike (for most of the show) - AITF
The Major -Soap
Elaine -Soap
Kramer and George (mostly) - Seinfeld

Earl and Randy - My Name Is Earl (Mostly)
Laura - Holliston

Maybe Dave Lister and Cat from Red Dwarf? Rimmer still thinks he's an officer, but they haven't actually done any mining.

Niles: God is forgiving, Miss Fine. When I was a boy, I once took five shillings out of the collection plate at church for toffee.
Fran: And nothing happened to you, right?
Niles: That's right, absolutely nothing. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go wash other peoples' underwear.

I think you could include Jerry Seinfeld in that group as well - he occasionally does stand-up on the show, but never enough to actually pay for how much that apartment would cost. In fact, Newman is the only decent human being on the entire show.

Carol from Empty Nest - she mostly sponges off her dad Harry Weston, but eventually starts her own business as a caterer (which never makes any money), and then gets a job as a reporter - for a weekly flyer basically run out of a laundromat.

Mork never had a stable human job - his real job was to report back to Ork about Earth, so I guess that counts?

Joey on My Two Dads - he was an artist and didn't have a regular job for most of the show, until he started working with Michael at the magazine, but I think they dropped that storyline (and the job?) after a couple of months

I'd say Kramer was more unemployed than Jerry. When Kramer once said, "He likes what I do." (or something like that) Elaine said, "What you do? You don't DO anything."

As far as Newman being decent, we'd have to start another thread on that one...

Peg Bundy was notorious for not working and sitting on the couch all day!

You're thinking of B. J. and the Bear, which also starred Greg Evigan.

Next you'll be telling me Paul Reiser's character didn't work for Weyland-Yutani Corporation.
