Default Hey Moe, Hey Dad

Has anyone watched this multi-part documentary about the Stooges? I think Decades ran it not too long ago but unfortunately I missed it. Was it good and will they show it again sometime?

I've watched each segment several times, most recently on Decades where I was able to see each a couple of times.

There's a lot of great history, and it's comprehensive going back to Ted Healy. Living relatives of Moe, Curly, and Larry are very prominent -- mainly their children, discussing their personal relationships obviously. I especially liked seeing how a couple of the very young daughters made appearances on the original shorts. We learn for example about the in-laws, like Moe's son-in-law.

Included is home movie footage, lots of anecdotes, and a much later audio segment of Moe on a radio program. There's a lot of discussion of personal habits, like Curly's lifestyle, and how Moe and Larry got along as far as socializing in real life. Some current celebrity comments are included, mainly from Whoopi Goldberg.

I don't think a more comprehensive video of Stooges history will ever be done. The reasons for Shemp Howard, Joe Besser, and Joe DeRita coming on board all were discussed pretty thoroughly. It's basically a thorough recounting from the perspective of the Howard Family, with some from a Larry Fine descendant.

I think it's very likely Decades will have this on again -- advertising for sales of the DVD set was included, so it's likely that the Howard Family is supportive of the exposure and would welcome some repeats.

Hey Moe, Hey Dad in my opinion is the video that really pulls it all together for fans of the Stooges; it includes so many bits and pieces we're familiar with from disparate sources, all placed in context and oftentimes expanded on -- and more importantly additional stuff that's obscure or rare.

(This is why I like Decades, there's a constant stream of film history, although I don't always agree with some of the comments on earlier shows (like a guy who claimed Jerry Lewis deliberately used second-rate talent for his films -- what, Jill St. John, Agnes Moorehead, Richard Deacon, and Ray Walston weren't any good???). But this is not Decades' fault, they're just airing what's available.)

One of the IMDb users has extremely high praise for Hey Moe:

I have this on DVD. I first heard about it being on Decades but missed it, so I got the DVD set. It is very interesting and I highly recommend it to any Stooge fans. I also liked the background music played throughout the series.

I recorded it on our DVR when it was on Decades and now I plan to buy the DVD set of it, like others have said it's a very good, thorough documentary (it was put together by Moes son Paul). I also highly recommend it .

Sorry to piggyback treky, but you said exactly what I was going to say.

My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that because the documentary is in segments, it is repetitive at times. Highly recommended.
