Oxygen's "The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway" Premieres Aug. 19th
"The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway" Promises New Lead in Cold Case
by Christian Holub July 10, 2017 The disappearance of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway during a high school graduation trip to the island of Aruba in 2005 caused a media sensation. But no suspects were ever charged with a crime, and the specifics of Holloway’s fate remain a mystery to this day. Oxygen’s latest true-crime docuseries, however, aims to change that. Like "Cold Justice" and "The Jury Speaks", "The Disappearance of Natalie Holloway" promises a new break in a case that’s grown cold. The show follows Natalee’s father Dave Holloway, still searching for answers 12 years later, as he follows a new lead with the family’s longtime private investigator T.J. Ward. Having found someone who claimed to be roommates with one of the co-conspirators in Natalee’s disappearance, Dave will spend the series following these new threads and trying to finally get closure for his family. “The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway is our first installment of a true crime franchise that follows real-time investigations inside the biggest missing person cases of the past century,” Oxygen executive Rod Aissa said in a statement. “This series gives viewers rare access to Dave Holloway’s gut-wrenching search for answers as he embarks on an immersive journey full of twists, turns and, most considerably, a new lead that could deliver justice for Natalie once and for all.” "The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway" is set to premiere Saturday, Aug. 19 at 9 p.m. on Oxygen. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/10/disappea...oxygen-series/ |

Natalee Holloway's Father Discovers Human Remains in Aruba
by Scott Stump August 16, 2017 Twelve years after Natalee Holloway's disappearance on a graduation trip to Aruba, her father is hoping a recent discovery will yield a major break in the case of what happened to his daughter. Dave Holloway and private investigator T.J. Ward announced on "TODAY" Wednesday that an 18-month investigation has led them to discover human remains that are being DNA tested to confirm if they are Natalee's. "When we determined these remains were human, I was shocked,'' Holloway told Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie. "I know there's a possibility this could be someone else, and I'm just trying to wait and see." Ward and Holloway are featured in a new Oxygen series premiering on Saturday night called "The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway," which follows their search to find out what happened. An informant, known as "Gabriel", put Ward and Holloway in contact with a man they claim had direct knowledge of Natalee's disappearance. "We have a person who states he was directly involved with Joran van der Sloot in disposing of Natalee's remains," Holloway said. "I thought, you know, there may be something to this. We've chased a lot of leads and this one is by far the most credible lead I've seen in the last 12 years." The men have been back and forth to an unspecified location behind a house in Aruba that was provided to them by the informant where human remains were found after being dug up. The DNA testing will take several weeks to a month to determine if they are Natalee's remains, Holloway said. A year after Natalee's mother said on "TODAY" that "justice has not been served" in Natalee's death, her father is hoping for some closure if the remains are determined to be his daughter. "It would finally be the end," he said. https://www.aol.com/article/news/201...ruba/23079423/ |

Just watched the first episode. It's promising, especially with the recently discovered human remains, but I'm still skeptical. These miniseries that have been popping up lately that claim to reveal some major development ("The Curse of Oak Island," I'm looking at you) end up just being a major disappointment and a grab at viewership. Also suspicious that the interview was on The Today Show, which is on NBC, who also owns the network that's airing the miniseries.
Sorry to be so negative, but for once I would love to see one of these miniseries to actually resolve something for once. |

I'm glad you started this thread James, as I'd been thinking of starting one myself. With regards to this program I have to admit that I didn't make it past the first episode. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any issue with the programming or it's content...I just got really depressed seeing all the ways that this family have been taken advantage of in the wake of their profound tragedy. For example, I had no idea that Van Der Sloot had attempted to extort money from Holloway's parents in exchange for the location of her remains. A person capable of that would have to be a real piece of work IMO. Van Der Sloot's disgusting extortion attempt and subsequent murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez should put to rest any doubts of his guilt in the Holloway case (still JMO). While I worry that this program may just be another attempt to take advantage, I can certainly understand why her family would take that chance. I have to imagine that any opportunity this family has to keep the public interested in their daughter's disappearance would be a welcome one at this point.
It would appear that the Oxygen network also plans to air The Disappearance of Maura Murray. While I originally believed that Ms. Murray met with foul play, the more I learn of the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, the more I wonder if maybe her absence is voluntary somehow. Of course that possibility doesn't negate the concern of her loved ones, or their need for answers. |

Oxygen Media Defends Natalee Holloway Series Amid Mother's Lawsuit
by The Associated Press Feb. 7, 2018 A lawsuit seeking $35 million over an Oxygen Media television series about the disappearance of an Alabama teenager in Aruba presents an "inaccurate depiction" of the show, the company said in response to the complaint. A statement released late Tuesday by Oxygen, which specializes in true-crime entertainment programming for women, said it has "deep compassion and sympathy" for relatives of Natalee Holloway and was disappointed in the lawsuit by her mother, Beth Holloway. Holloway has filed a federal lawsuit in Birmingham contending The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway was a fake documentary that subjected her to weeks of anguish when it aired last summer. Aside from Oxygen Media, which is an arm of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, Holloway also is suing the Los Angeles-based Brian Graden Media, which developed the show. The six-episode series included the discovery of what were supposedly remains that could be those of Natalee. But the lawsuit claims producers knew that bone fragments featured in the production weren't linked to Natalee before supposed testing produced inconclusive results. Oxygen Media said the show followed Dave Holloway, a Mississippi insurance agent who was Natalee's father and the former husband of Beth Holloway, as he searched for answers about his daughter. "We had hoped, along with Mr. Holloway, that the information was going to provide closure," said the statement. "We cannot comment further on ongoing litigation." Natalee Holloway was 18 when she was last seen during a trip with classmates to Aruba. Her disappearance after a night with friends at a nightclub sparked years of news coverage, particularly in the tabloid and true-crime media. No remains were ever found, and the Dutch teen suspected in her death, Joran van der Sloot, is now imprisoned for the slaying of another young woman in Peru in 2010. A judge acting at Dave Holloway's request declared Natalee Holloway legally dead in 2012. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ne...awsuit-1082799 |
