Default The two most extreme "cast changes"

Jeremy Gelbwaks was replaced by Brian Forester in "Partridge Family" and this was an extreme change in that the second boy looked nothing like the first boy who played the character "Chris Partridge."

The only other example of such an extreme change of a cast member was in "Batman' when Eartha Kitt replaced Julie Newmar in playing Catwoman.

I guess one example in which a change of cast was done without the replacement NOT looking anything like the original cast member was when Pat Priest replaced Beverly Owen in The Munsters.
I actually only recently learned that Marilyn Munster was played by 2 different actresses. I might have been too young back then to clearly remember it now.

How about Night Court when both of the female bailiffs died?

As much of a problem I now have with MASH's politics looking back on the show as an adult, they were very clever with most of their forced cast changes, not have the replacements be carbon copies of the original.

Henry Blake replaced by Sherman Potter

Frank Burns replaced by Charles Winchester

Both were completely different than their predecessors which freshened the series up.

Of course, Trapper John replaced by BJ Hunnicutt was a different story...

I always thought the differences between the two Harry Morton's in "Burns and Allen," as played by Fred Clark and Larry Keating, was quite striking. Same character, but they had completely different personalities... Clark being loud, brash and rather lowbrow, and Keating being quiet-mannered, intellectual and aloof.

Dick Sargent replacing Dick York on Bewitched. They didn't look alike and he changed the personality of Darrin, some say he became too bland.

I always thought they kind of did. Maybe it was just me.

The only cast changes that really bother me are Harriette Winslow (Family Matters) & Quentin Kelly (Grace Under Fire).

Yeah, those two were both pretty drastic and terrible.

Even more silly was the replacement casting of Gladys Kravitz. How you do go from the skinny, brunette Alice Pearce to the pudgy, redheaded Sandra Gould and expect no one to notice? (I think Pearce was also taller, though I'm not sure.) Plus Gould's Kravitz was much more mean-spirited than Pearce's character.

Alice Pearce was perfect but she died. Did you expect them to invent a new nosy neighbor with a different name? I'm sure they wanted to keep George Tobias. Bewitched was a light comedy. I don't think they wanted to get into the first Mrs. Kravitz dying and Abner remarrying.

Yes, Alice Pearce was a gentle nuisance but loveable and I think the audience could feel badly for her when she freaked out over the shenanigans she witnessed over at Sam's. I never once felt badly for Gould's Mrs. Kravitz. She made the character unlikeable.

I don't think Dick Sargent or Sandra Gould did justice to their characters. I guess they needed to keep the characters alive if the show was to continue but it was never the same especially with Sargent.

I agree with you DJM77, I think Dick Sargent and Dick York resembled each other a lot too. I think they portrayed Darrin about the same too, others can disagree with me but that's my opinion.

Another one for me is when they replaced the original Colleen on Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman. Originally played by Erika Flores and then she was replaced with Jessica Bowman. I didn't think they looked anything alike. Other than the fact they both had long hair, but even then it wasn't the same color.

I find it interesting that anyone could say that Dick York and Dick Sargent resembled each other or portrayed the character the same way. I always thought Dick Sargent was a much milder and calmer Darrin, which I preferred. Dick York's Darrin overreacted in such an over the top way, and also I don't see a physical resemblance at all.

There was no attempt to try to fool the audience into thinking that could be the same actor playing the role of Darrin, which you'd think they might have done, considering he was the co-lead of the show.

The only time I thought they resembled each other was during the animated opening credits.
