As Uncle Phil explained to Will at the end of "Banks Shot," Uncle Phil frequented a lot of pool halls when he was Will's age...perhaps Uncle Phil played billiards to support himself while he was in college to earn extra money.

i loved the conclusion to this episode. will and uncle phil finally reached an understanding. uncle phil wasn't trying to spoil will's fun, he just wanted him to be safe. he clearly had experience being in those kinds of places. whereas will was still naive - despite being from the 'hood'. i thought that was interesting..
