The first DVD I got was the movie Spiderman on my Birthday in 2002. The first DVD box set I received was the "supermarionation" series Thunderbirds which I purchased on the day it came out in December of the same year. (you should have been in my neighborhood shortly after my B-Day when I discovered that the T-Birds was coming out on DVD, my mother heard me shout when was INSIDE a neighbor's house across the street!) For all intents and purposes, the first show I purchased was a bona-fide "Grail Show". On Boxing Day I purchased three other Gerry Anderson shows, Captain Scarlett, Joe 90 and Secret Service using my "Santa Cash": For the next four years I'd get a box set and/or a movie or two from time to time (usually from a store's "bargain bin"). There were more fingers on my hands than there were DVD box sets in my collection until that late September day in 2006 when I saw that "adult product" prescription drug commercial aired during a kid's show. Prior to this incident I was questioning WHY should I continue subscribing to a Pay-TV service while the cost did nothing but rise, while the quality of their programming did nothing but sink. I canceled my subscription and went POSTAL on the DVD sets. A little over a decade my spending on DVDs has declined, but not because of financial reasons. I have amassed a mammoth library of DVDs that the only shows I desire to purchase are the few "grail shows" that have yet to be released (In the meantime I have PLENTY of DVDs to chew on!

I wouldn't say that 2004 was the most entertaining year for TV show DVD's, but it was during that time when the concept of issuing TV shows on DVD started taking off and getting popular.

2004 is the year when season 1 of The Flintstones came out on DVD. I purchased it and that basically began my interest of collecting DVD's of favorite TV shows.

Yes, 2004 was the first major year for me as far as shows I loved coming to DVD. That was the height of my DVD collecting years. It was so exciting in those days. Of course that was before I became aware of music rights and butchering of episodes and all that.

Some of my favorites debuting in '04 were Boy Meets World, Taxi, Ellen, Quantum Leap, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, Reno 911!, Batman: The Animated Series, Barney Miller, Sliders, ALF, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, The Munsters, Mork & Mindy, That '70s Show. Too Close for Comfort, Pee-wee's Playhouse and The Golden Girls.

Edits of TV show episodes on DVD because of music is a source of irritation for me too. It is so ridiculous. Several episodes of Gomer Pyle USMC got the hack treatment on the DVD's and music segments were edited out.
