The Crooked Man from The Conjuring 2 Gets his Own Movie

EW has confirmed that The Crooked Man from director James Wan’s 2016 hit The Conjuring 2 is the latest character from the growing Conjuring universe to get his own movie.

Writer Mike Van Waes has been recruited by New Line to pen the script for the movie, which is based on a story by Wan and will be produced by the director and Peter Safran. The Crooked Man is a terrifying paranormal apparition which appeared briefly, but memorably, in Wan’s horror sequel.

The Crooked Man is one of several upcoming Conjuring spin-off films.

The David F. Sandberg-directed Annabelle: Creation — a prequel to 2014’s haunted doll movie Annabelle — is being released Aug. 11, while filmmaker Corin Hardy is currently at work on The Nun, about another of the supernatural entities featured in The Conjuring 2, which will arrive in cinemas on July 13, 2018.

"The Conjuring Universe" continues to grow with The Nun 2 and The Conjuring 4 on the way, but there’s one character no longer getting the spin-off treatment: The Crooked Man.

Director James Wan took to Instagram recently to share throwback photos of his scene-stealing character, played by Javier Botet. Wan shared the news that the long-awaited spin-off for this character isn’t happening, at least for the foreseeable future.

Wan wrote in his post, “And no, unfortunately, the spinoff movie with this character isn’t happening. Outside of my control. But maybe one day.”
