One of the theme songs I found recently on my theme song site is Captain Noah. When was this show? It is not listed on epguides.com or my primetime directory.

"CAPTAIN NOAH & HIS MAGICAL ARK" was a local kids show in Philadelphia in the 70s. It was on Channel 6, WPVI.

WPVI and its predecessor WFIL had lots of kids shows...Popeye Theater with Sally Starr (dressed as a cowgirl), Chief Halftown, Wee Will Webber. They all played cartoons. All the large cities had their cartoon hosts, but Phila. seemed to have a ton of them. WFIL did strange things...they had a guy, Larry Ferrari, who sat and played the organ for a half hour. (Sorry--this is a little off-topic.)

I grew up in Philadelphia in the 60s when they were WFIL and yea, they did have a lot of kids shows. And not just Channel 6; all the channels had them-channels 3, 6, 10, 17 and 48.
About 10 years ago the local PBS station-WHYY-did a special about them called PHILADELPHIAS FAMOUS KID SHOW HOSTS |

Bertie Bunyip...forgot that one! Also grew up in that area, South Jersey, in the 50s and 60s. Wish we'd had VCRs during that time.

My siblings and I used to make fun!! . We thought he was such a corn ball! Now I think it's nice. His organ music is really pretty! It would be nice/relaxing for a Sunday morning! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFZ3VvErruo |

Never saw LF with that 1980s long hair look, till now. I just remember the cornball stuff from the 1960s. Didn't see any youtube on that (probably was done live and isn't preserved).
Just checked Wiki--he lived 3/4/32 thru 11/20/97, and his show on WFIL/WPVI ran from 1954 thru 1997 (wow!). |

I grew up in the 70s in 80s in suburban Philly and have the Noah's Ark song in my brain for good! Last year's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philly they had a tribute to Noah and I surprised myself singing along with the song.
I remember Larry. Does anyone remember Al Albert's Showcase with all the cute, talented kids? |

Yeah, wouldn't you like to see some Popeye Theater with Sally Starr (now, kids, tell mom and dad to go get this toy...)? I need to check youtube...there's probably some video of her on there.
