I had never seen this segment before (from S5).
Some weird stuff. He woke up with amnesia and within 5 months he was already engaged? Also, he demanded family photos and proof of his birth records and stuff right from the get go? And finally he just remembered everything from his "entire life." Also these photos lol: |

I think this is one of the legit amnesia cases. Pierre indicated some very disturbing bits and pieces (he did not elaborate in the segment) in his fragmented memory. My guess is this is why he was so suspicious.
As far as the quick engagement, who knows? Some cases on UM have had folks married after just a few weeks. It's rare, and seems weird to me, but it happens. |

His was one of the few amnesia cases that was somewhat believable. It's difficult to say what happened obviously, but I always suspected some mental illness or a mental break.

While I too am skeptical of many amnesia cases, I find it odd that people are always SO skeptical of amnesia. It seems like it is believed in less than ghosts or UFOs. Amnesia does exist, and while rare it is a condition that can be caused by several different factors such as head trauma, psychological stress, mental illness and other health issues. Again, I agree it is rare, but it is a recognized medical condition.
But as I said before in my earlier post, I think this particular case is likely legit. As to what caused it, my guess would be head trauma based on things said in the interview. Mental illness is always a possibility, but even so, I think the amnesia is real here. |

He looks like a French/Redneck hybrid version of Jean Claude Van Damme.

The best example is the UM story on the housewife (I forgot her name) who had a stroke which impaired her brain function. She had long-term memory loss but still knew who she was. She was in a sense frozen in the past. To just wake up and not know who you are, for a long time, is rare. I've seen people with head injuries have temporary amnesia but it usually comes back in hours to days. Often times they have no memory of the time just before and just after the trauma. I do think Pierre was being legit. I'd love to know what led up to him being found on the side of the road. |

On the the other hand, there is so much variation in humor behavior and motivations, so who really knows? Also, as we all know, UM leaves out tons of details in their presentations. I'll just say that from what was presented on the segment, it didn't look like he had any reason for fabricating the amnesia claims, and you can't say that about others. |
