"Sense8" Canceled at Netflix after 2 Seasons

Despite some recent encouraging signs, Season 2 of Netflix’s sci-fi drama series "Sense8", from Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski, will be its last as the Internet network has opted not to proceed with a third.

The decision comes less than a month after the May 5 release of Season 2.



“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end,” Netflix VP original content Cindy Holland said in a statement.

“It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant (Hill) for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”



With its dense mythology, "Sense8" never became a broad, pop-culture hit like Netflix’s "Orange is the New Black" or "Stranger Things" but quickly established a loyal following by devoted fans who had been rallying for a third season renewal.

Their number was likely not enough to clinch another season of the expensive, globe-trotting sci-fi saga.

Celebrate "Sense8" Fans, Netflix Isn't Done with the Cluster After All!

Let it never be said that a passionate group of fans with a bold agenda can't make waves. After the news that "Sense8" had been cancelled by Netflix (and a followup statement that fan campaigns had not changed their mind), the show is now getting a 2-hour finale to wrap up the series.

Lana Wachowski released a statement on Twitter Thursday morning that thanked the relentless efforts of fans who loved the show so dearly, the story would now continue next year.

"Death doesn't let you say goodbye. 2 hour finale episode in the works. Tell your cluster."

"Sense8" Series Finale Gets Release Date, Poster

You’re in cluster luck: Netflix has announced a release date for "Sense8‘s" series wrap-up movie. The highly-anticipated conclusion to the saga of the "Sense8" cluster will be revealed on Friday June 8, when the two-hour movie hits Netflix.

In addition to setting a date, Netflix released a poster celebrating the release.




In the series finale — which was commissioned four weeks after Netflix gave the two-season drama the axe — “personal lives are pushed aside as the cluster, their sidekicks and some unexpected allies band together for a rescue mission and BPO take-down in order to protect the future of all Sensates.”
