First , I would like to say that I am a new member , and I think this a really cool site , I am almost 19 years old , and when this show came out I was a very impressional little boy , and I soon learned that when the disclaimer came up on the screen it was time to get the hell out of dodge ! , this show use to scare the crap out of me, and my sister would turn it on in front of me and make me watch it , and probably the first one to really give me nighmares was the one where the family buy the used bunk bed , and all the weird stuff starts happening around , the house , and one of the little kids start seeing witches , and then a family freind comes over and stays with them while the father is at work , and the dude is like laying there in the bed , and all of a sudden he screams and bolts out of bed, because he sees "something ".......... Son ... let me tell you I was a teriffied little boy ..... i had dreams about witches with fire for hair for a long time . and still to this day when I see that episode , It REALLY creeps me out .
Anyway back to what I originally wanted to talk about , was the composite drawings .....In a whole , this one part of the show is what stuck with me forever , I always found those drawing extremely scary , and those pictures always stuck in my head when I went to bed , , and just the way they showed them with the marble background ...... ....By the way I think that the earlier episodes ( up to like 1992 ) were the scariest . Thanks . |

I totally agree the composite drawings I always found to be extremly creepy.
As for that bunk bed story, no need to fret, I live about 15 minutes from that home located in Horicon, WI. The house is no longer haunted. That family moved to Beaver Dam, WI, which is just about 5 miles west of Horicon. That was also one of the first times I ever watched Unsolved Mysteries back in October of 1988 and I too found the show scary. However, now I've grown out of it. |

The composite sketches still creep me out the most, and still make for the best segments.

I agree that the earlier eps were the scariest. I was 15 when the show first came on and it used to scare me alot. So much that if I was lying in bed at night I would be afraid to get up to use the bathroom or something but for some reason I would still tune in to it every wednesday evening.

LOL! You guys are so cool. I have the same reactions to this show as the rest of you.
*I agree, the earlier episodes were scarier. I think this is because they used the freaky background music much more often and the seemed darker. *I'm 23 years old now, but the show first came on Wendesday nights on NBC when I was around 8 years old. And yes, it did scare the crap out of me when I was little, and yes, I did have nightmares from it every so often. My mom even ordered me to stop watching it for a while since it scared me so much, but I couldn't resist watching the show for some reason. As far as the composite drawings, yes, they are pretty damn freaky. In the case involving Michael Frankie (the man that was abducted by a ton of men shortly after leaving his office and then later beaten to death on the porch of his office) I remembered they showed a composite sketch of a man that was seen walking around the hallway of the office late that evening...IT WAS THE SCARIEST LOOKING DRAWING I EVER SAW. |

I know this may sound stupid but something that scared me when i used to watch UM in early 90s was the photos of the MISSING PERSON/UNEXPLANED DEATH/WANTED victims, maybe the knowledge that those persons were dead (or at least could have been) and their obviously natural smiles freaked me like nothing else in the show.
Now that im grown up i have noticed that sometimes when they showed that age progression photos these look more sinister that the original ones. Maybe i shoud quit watching UM...!

Does anyone else here remember that feeling of anticipation that they would show a composite sketch of the criminal towards the end of the segment? And does anyone remember feeling disappointment when you would get to the end of the segment and they did not show one because one was never made? I still experience that when I watch old episodes.
As segments develop, I have always had a bit of a "letdown" when it is revealed that the criminal is already known, because then, you know you will see a real picture and not a composite. |

Lol...it's funny how much we get into the show that we notice things like this, but I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. The composites are often scary or creepy, but I always look forward to them. This show is a masochist's dream - scares the hell out of me (the old one did, anyway), but I could never stay away from it. |
