"Home Is Where The Heart Attack Is" should've been a two-parter - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

A couple of nights ago, I rewatched season four's "Home Is Where The Heart Attack Is" on MTV2. As I was rewatching the episode (I'd seen it several dozen times before in the past), I wondered what would've happened had Uncle Phil not survived his heart attack and died either on the floor in the Banks' kitchen or in the ambulance, with Will by his side, en route to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. I could imagine Uncle Phil's funeral being a lavish but somber event, with family (Grandma, Vy, Aunt Helen, Uncle Lester, Aunt Janice, and Uncle Frank) and friends (Henry Furth, Coach Smiley, Jameson Whitworth, Fred Lomax Jr., Charlie Mack, Luther, and Jackie) offering their condolences...even Will's buddies Jazz, Ice Tray, and Tyriq would've shared a few words--and a few laughs--during the service.

Then I thought about another scenario: What if Uncle Phil had lapsed into a coma after suffering his heart attack? That particular scenario actually struck a cord with me, the more I thought about it...I could imagine Carlton getting inebriated in a low-rent bar or pool hall in either Compton or Inglewood, consuming beer after beer (or multiple shots of tequila), after learning about Uncle Phil's heart attack. Will and Carlton would've been embroiled in a full-blown, no-holds-barred argument; the argument would've ended with Carlton actually slugging Will a Tyson-esque punch across Will's jaw. Meanwhile, back at Cedars-Sinai, the rest of the Banks clan--Vivian, Hilary, Ashley, Nicky, and Geoffrey--would've gathered in the waiting room, in Cedars-Sinai's ICU unit, upon learning of Uncle Phil's heart attack, with Vivian in hysterics and blaming herself for Uncle Phil's condition. Dr. Kevarkian (with an "a," of course) would've also had a much larger role in the episode, with him offering support and sympathy to the Banks family while, at the same time, being concerned with Uncle Phil's condition.

My question is this: Do you think "Home Is Where The Heart Attack Is" would've been more effective as a two-part episode? How do you think the Banks household would've suffered had Uncle Phil died? Do you think Uncle Phil would've miraculously emerged from his coma with a new outlook on life?
