Being a high school kid in the early seventies... they were a lot more restricted than now, both at school and at home. A teenage girl from now finding herself transported to the Brady Bunch universe would soon chafe under the restrictions and expectations of a young girl in the 1970s.
So I ask of the forum: Would you really like to live in the Brady's world? |

I was quite happy living with my own family.
It would have been fun to have more brothers and sisters. But I didn't always get along with the ones I had. Growing up with only one other sibling (a second came later), I was aware that my family was more easily able to afford things and do things like plane trips that my friends with larger families never got to do. I also had my own bedroom the whole time I was growing up. Many of my friends didn't. (Of course, the Brady kids didn't, until finally the attic was made into a bedroom.) My best friend shared a bedroom with his younger brother and sister until he was about 10 and then continued to share with his brother. One of my best female friends shared with both her sisters, until the oldest sister took inspiration from "A Room at the Top" and got her parents to let her have the basement playroom. Sherwood Schwartz reported that the show frequently received letters from girls (always girls) who were unhappy with their families and wanted to move in with the Bradys. There were so many that Schwartz had a form letter to reply to them. "Thank God none of them ever showed up!," he wrote in his memoir "Brady Brady Brady." |

I was a teenager in the 80's and my parents were rather old school and restrictive. I only had one younger brother, so having sisters would have been cool.
I was a child of the 70's and a teenager of the 80's, and from what I remember, the 80's were a much more materialistic decade and the 70's more laid back. So I think I would've actually preferred that 70's in that regard. As for living with the Brady Bunch, don't know about the whole 6 kids and 1 bathroom situation, but I would have loved to have Alice around. I loved the rapport she always had with the kids. Really, what kid wouldn't love that? |

I had my horse so I was not restricted that much. I could do it, but I would not want to live with all of those people.
