This is some bittersweet news (well, mostly bitter): MTV has cancelled "Sweet/Vicious" after one season.

The news of the cancellation came directly from the show’s creator Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who tweeted out a heartfelt note to fans on Friday, thanking them for their support and promising to “NEVER stop fighting to tell stories that matter.”

To Our Amazing, Beautiful Sweet/Vicious Fans,

I got the news that MTV has cancelled Sweet/Vicious. To say that I am devastated would be the understatement of the year. Please hear me when I say this decision should not make you feel that your story is invalid. To the supporters who have survived and loved our show, who have found comfort in the stories we told, you mean everything to me and the entire cast and crew.

Jules and Ophelia will live on forever inside each and every person who fights for this cause. We as the creative team will do everything we can to find this show another home and with your help hopefully we will be able to continue the Sweet/Vicious journey. I can promise you that I will NEVER stop fighting to tell stories that matter.

I love you all - the fans who have loved our little show with everything and they have the critics & journalists who have given us visibility and fought along side us to save it. In a time when it feels like everything is an uphill battle to achieve what is just and right I am ready to put on my hiking boots and continue to climb. I hope that you will all climb with me.

“MTV has decided to not move forward with a second season of Sweet/Vicious. We are extremely proud of this critically acclaimed series and are deeply disappointed such an impactful show did not find a larger audience,” the network said in a statement.

“Sweet/Vicious was a show we loved from the start, with empowering female leads and a message we believe in. We are grateful the series started a much needed dialogue around sexual assault, and thank the talented Jennifer Robinson, Amanda Lasher, Stacey Sher and the stellar cast, writers and producers for creating such a timely and thought-provoking series.”





The MTV drama starred Eliza Bennett and Taylor Dearden as Jules and Ophelia, a pair of female college students who become vigilantes, exacting revenge on men who’ve committed sexual assault on campus.

Its ten-episode freshman season debuted in November to universally strong reviews, but meager ratings — just 180,000 viewers tuned in for the January 24 finale — apparently sealed its fate.
