In episode 17 of season 9, Roz, Martin, and Daphne decide to set up Fraiser with blind dates due to him not having had a relationship in a long time.

There's as scene in where Daphne and Niles are sitting at the table going through a list of Daphne's friends who they could set him up with. Daphne asks, "what about -this person- who has perky breasts", Niles starts thinking about what the person looks like and then says "I wouldn't call them perky as much as...." and then just stops there and changes the subject.

Later Niles suggests setting up Fraiser with an ex-patient, and when Daphne excitedly asks what she looks like, he says something like "She has the most beautiful.......I'd have to check my notes...."

I'm confused about what the heck is going on with Niles. Does he think that Daphne will get mad at him for thinking about another woman when they're clearly thinking about dates with good qualities for Fraiser? Daphne brought up the perky breast thing herself and doesn't seem like she'd get mad at him him for agreeing. Why would he pretend to forget what his own patient looked like or is he feigning ignorance to avoid talking positively about another women in front of Daphne? Or is it that now that he is with Daphne is just not interested in talking about anyone else?

I watch Fraiser over and over and over again on Netflix all the time, and every time this episode comes up, I get really confused. I might be nitpicking too much, but isn't that what these forums are for?

Yes, these forums are indeed for nit-picking and that term most definitely applies here, so I will give it a go. As a man who has had more than twice his share of relationships with a large variety of women, I can safely say that Niles avoided saying what was on his mind to avoid a fight. When women hear something interesting about someone that they THOUGHT they knew everything about, there's simply no not telling them EVERYTHING about this new juicy information. Unlike men who would take a "It's none of your business, so move on!", women will verbally harass and cajole you acting as if what you refuse to tell them is something surly or scandalous, when it's simply leaving the past in the past by not giving out more information than necessary.

Thanks so much for your insights! I felt like it was a mini running gag within the scene itself and I always felt like there was something I wasn't getting. Probably overanalyzed it to death but it is definitely one of my favorite episodes!

Most people do not like it when their significant others pay too much attention to members of the opposite sex. This includes things like noticing and 'rating' an attractive friend's breasts, or recalling the attractiveness of an acquaintance.

I'm as confused as you are... as to why you are confused. Is it truly a mystery to you why a woman would get mad even if she was the one who initially brought it up?

I need to watch this episode again. Sometimes I like analyzing them to be honest. After all, Niles and Frasier analyze everything all the time, so what better show to analyze, right?
