it was a touching episode, but there were some real writing deficiencies
a lot of tv shows make the following mistake in that they are so ready to get into the plot that they enter it with something dumb first, no teacher is gonna make the class re-do their reports after they have already been done. to me, that is a racist thing, in and of itself. what the teacher should have done is to have their next assignment on a black american, if that was her goal. secondly, neither martin nor anyone else would have left the writing on the car. it accomplished nothing. i can see him driving it home, so that the police could see it, take pictures, and do whatever they could. but the police told him to wash it, and that is exactly what martin should have done. and when martin could see an uprising starting, he should have realized that he was now the problem. the vice-principal was absolutely correct to call to have the car towed. and i did not like the fact that the towing guy was black and decided not to tow the car. i also think that had racist tones to it. i think the writers were so anxious to make a point that they did not think this through very well. |
