Fansites all gone now - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Another negative aspect of the social media era is the disappearance of all the fan sites.

I still remember as a young kid in the 90's, as soon as I had an internet connection I searched on the internet news and photos (no videos back there, with the 56k connection!) of my favorite shows of the time.
Fansites were really amazing, and even if the photos weren't enough, the news wrong and uncertain, and the biographies skimpy, those sites were alive, they pulsed love for the shows they talked about, and I'm sure nostalgic about them.

Now for these things there are all neutral sources such as IMDb, official facebook pages. Half of the fun was browsing the webrings and discovering new sites.

Until some time ago a few resisted, but now it seems they are all gone now.
I thought sometimes of creating one for some old show, but time is never enough.

I miss those shows and I miss those times!

I miss fan sites too! It was such a fun time. I think the closing of Geocities (a free website hosting service) killed off most of them.

Fan sites were fun. Much better than 'unsocial' media.

Yep, several forums I used to frequent have gone the way of the dinosaur. You are right; there was so much more life and intimacy in those old, clunky sites. Now it's all homogenized and bland.

Yippee for progress.
