Default Unnecessary Update Segments included in the Amazon Episodes?

After watching 4 Seasons of UM on Amazon now, one thing that really bugs me (besides missing segments) are all the Update Segments that are included in the Amazon episodes.

If I was watching the show in real-time as it originally aired on NBC I could understand watching an Update Segment on a topic such as "Arthur" 2 weeks after the "Arthur" segment aired, but in 2017 having an Update Segment is pointless when they are already included in the original segment anyway.

Of course, Lifetime set a poor example for "Update Segments" but still this really drives me nuts that Filmrise would include at least one (and sadly sometimes more than one) Update segment in a typical 45-50 minute episode and then say that do not have room to air a segment such as "The Orange Sock Murders"

On the other hand, I can understand Filmrise wanting to make the episodes as close to the original NBC broadcast as possible. I bet their are some who want the episode, whole episode and nothing but the whole episode. (even the Update Segments!)

I do give Filmrise a perfect score for catering to the authenticity of the show. I love how the opening theme is the whole thing with Robert Stack walking up and saying a few words, and then the end theme is great with Stack talking about an upcoming episode and saying "join us Wednesday at 8" but still in 2017 a lot of we the fans binge watch episodes and it is annoying seeing an update segment when just a couple hours ago (or episodes ago) we viewed the whole segment with the update added at the end.

I mostly agree with this. I don't care about having the episodes as they aired nearly as much as having the segments themselves to watch. The only benefit to full episodes is the season-to-season structure and it's easier to see if something is missing that way. And the updates do tend to get tedious. I kind of have the agreement with myself that I will watch each season in its entirety without fast forwarding and without skipping ahead. It's a hard deal to keep when all of the updates come up, but it's better than not having UM.

I agree wholeheartedly...most of the updates can be limited to the original segment and the update, and do away with most of the "other" updates to the same case, most often only 2 episodes later. I have found myself fast forwarding quite a bit, which I hate doing, but, like I said, when the "Tyler" segment wasn't your favorite to begin with, it's hard to watch repeated updates of it.

I disagree, I like that they have current updates, it helps people who have never seen the show and are new to it or haven't watched it in a very long time.

I watched the Cathy Williams-Loving segment last night and noticed that they made a text update through Filmrise and completely cut out her reunion with Fred Lyle where she cooks him a meal of his favorite dishes and has a short interview with him. I wonder why they did that.

I noticed that too; that was one of my favorite LL updates. They did the same thing with the Heck family case; there was a reunion that was filmed but for some reason Filmrise also just added a text update.

In regards to OP's topic, I agree that it does seem unnecessary to have the update segments separate from the original segments if they already have the update. I did notice once case had a text update added to the original segment and then a full update in another season (Ann Sigmin).

How many times is the Jeannie Wagner-Duncan Gilmore update going to be run? I mean, it's worth it if only for Duncan's brilliantly casual "Well, yeah." response when asked if he slept with Patsy Summers,

They annoy me too, but that's really my only qualm with the Amazon seasons so far. Maybe they'll tidy them up once all the seasons are released, but if not, no biggie.
