Alice opening theme song

I always had this fascination with the theme song to Alice. It is likely the only show that changed up its theme song more times than any other sitcom whether it was the style of singing, music and lyrics. Maybe than any other show ever. Am I right? lol The opening credits were different each time each season. Obviously they changed too when Flo was no longer a character on the show and Belle and Jolene were each added, but still, to have a show change the opening each season was memorable.

Linda's singing in each season was different with a change up of the music.

The first two seasons had the same lyrics:

Early to rise, early to bed.
In and between I cooked and cleaned and went out of my head.
Going through life with blinders on, it's tough to see.
I had to get up, get out from under and look for me.
There's a new girl in town and she's looking good.
There's a fresh freckled face, in the neighborhoood.
There's a new girl in town, with a brand new style.
She was just passing through,
but if things work out she's gonna stay awhile....ba ba bum bum bummmm


Season 3 and 5 shared the same lyrics with the "fresh, freckled face" lyric being changed to "got a smile, got a song":

Used to be sad, used to be shy
Funniest thing, the saddest part is I never knew why...
Kickin' myself for nothin' was my favorite sport
I had to get out and start enjoyin' 'cause life's too short
There's a new girl in town, 'cause I'm feelin good.
Got a smile, got a song, for the neighborhood.
there's a new girl in town on her own two feet
and this girl's here to say
with some luck and love life's gonna be
so sweeeeeeeeeet!

Seasons 4, 6,7,8 and 9 had the same lyrics as season 3 & 5 except for the "I" was added to the first lyric:

I used to be sad, I used to be shy

You're right for a theme song with lyrics. In terms of changes to the video images associated with a theme song, Hazel has to top all with the number of changes they did, sometimes more than one per season!

I'm watching Alice on Logo, and they're showing episodes from Season 4. Who told Linda Lavin that her singing for the fourth season opening was good? They should've been fired lol

I wonder how many times they re shot the car scene at the beginning driving down the freeway? I know there is one with Linda and Phillip seen through the car windshield...a second one with the car driving through the highway...a third with the car being passed by a eighteen wheeler, a fourth with the car being passed by a van whose trying to avoid traffic and a fifth with the same van passing Alice's car with no incoming vehicles approaching in the opposite lane...LOL

By the fourth season they should have omitted a new girl in town part because Belle and then Jolene were the new girl in town....LOLOL
