Exclamation "Jersey Shore's" Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino Gets 8 Month Sentence

"Jersey Shore’s" “The Situation” Faces 15-Years Behind Bars for Tax Evasion
by Dominic Patten
April 7, 2017

Federal prosecutors just ensured that the situation went from bad to worse for Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino today. Already facing big tax problems and 2014 fraud charges from the government, the former "Jersey Shore" star and his brother were slapped Friday with a new superseding indictment alleging more tax evasion, financial structuring and falsifying records.

Added up, the claims could see “The Situation” doing his once much valued laundry for behind bars for 15 years or more.

Mike and Marc Sorrentino will be arraigned on the new indictment April 17 in front of U.S. District Court Judge Susan D. Wigenton in Newark. NJ.

The former reality star and his sibling “conspired to defraud the United States by not paying all federal income tax owed on approximately $8.9 million that Michael earned between 2010 and 2012,” claims today’s indictment.

The object of the conspiracy was to impede, impair, obstruct, and defeat the lawful functions of the IRS, a constituent agency of the United States Department of the Treasury, in the ascertainment, computation, assessment, and collection of income taxes,” added the ledger book-like filing in federal court today from Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick.

If convicted, the Sorrentino brothers face a statutory maximum sentence of five years in prison on the conspiracy count and three years in prison for each count of aiding in the preparation of false tax returns,” the U.S. Attorney’s office for the district of New Jersey announced this afternoon.

Michael faces a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for each structuring count and five years in prison for the tax evasion count,” the feds added. “Marc faces a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for obstruction. They also face a period of supervised release, restitution and monetary penalties.

"Jersey Shore’s" “The Situation” Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion
by The Associated Press
Jan. 19, 2018

Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino, one of the stars of the "Jersey Shore" reality TV series that depicted 20-somethings partying and brawling by the seaside, pleaded guilty Friday to cheating on his taxes.

Sorrentino didn't comment on his way out of the courthouse, but his attorney said the 36-year-old was remorseful and has turned his life around in the last few years, including staying sober and becoming involved in a stable romantic relationship.

"In the last several years he has grown up as a human being," attorney Henry Klingeman said.

Sorrentino and his brother, Marc, were charged in 2014 and again last year with multiple counts related to nearly $9 million in income from the show.

They had pleaded not guilty but wrote a letter to the judge this week stating they wanted to change their pleas. Their trial had been scheduled to begin next month.

On Friday, Michael Sorrentino pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion and admitted concealing his income in 2011 by making cash deposits in amounts that wouldn't trigger federal reporting requirements.

Marc Sorrentino pleaded guilty to one count of assisting in the preparation of a false return. Their sentencing was scheduled for April 25.

The charge faced by Michael Sorrentino carries a maximum sentence of 14 months under federal sentencing guidelines, but Klingeman said similarly situated defendants often receive probation.

He added that Sorrentino largely entrusted his financial affairs to others.
"Michael played a minor role in the actual misconduct," Klingeman said.

"Jersey Shore" Star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino to Spend 8 Months in Prison
by Dave Nemetz
October 5, 2018

Party’s over: Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, who shot to fame as a cast member on MTV’s reality hit "Jersey Shore", was sentenced to eight months in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to tax evasion.

Sorrentino was sentenced to two years supervised release to follow his prison stint, according to EW.com; he’ll also have to complete 500 hours of community service and pay back restitution and a $10,000 fine.

He pled guilty to one count of tax evasion in January, stemming from charges that he failed to pay taxes on $8.9 million of income from 2010 to 2012. (Jersey Shore, for the record, began airing in 2009.)

Sorrentino’s brother Marc also pled guilty to a related charge and was sentenced to two years in prison.

"Jersey Shore" castmates Pauly D, Vinny, Ronnie, Snooki, JWoww and Deena attended Friday’s sentencing hearing to support Sorrentino, all dressed in black.

Sorrentino was also joined by his fiancée Lauren Pesce, who he proposed to last season on "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation".

"Jersey Shore" Star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino to Begin Serving 8-month Prison Sentence
by Aurelie Corinthios
Jan. 15, 2018

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is going to prison.

The "Jersey Shore" star will report to the Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, New York, on Tuesday. TMZ reports that it’s the same prison where President Donald Trump‘s former attorney Michael Cohen is expected to serve time.

Sorrentino, 36, and his brother Marc were indicted in September 2014 for tax offenses and conspiring to defraud the United States after allegedly failing to properly pay taxes on $8.9 million in income from 2010 to 2012.

In April 2017, both men were indicted on additional charges including tax evasion, structuring and falsifying records.

Sorrentino pled guilty to one count of tax evasion in January 2018, and his brother Marc pled guilty to one count of aiding in the preparation of a false and fraudulent tax return. In October 2018, Sorrentino was sentenced to eight months in prison and two years of supervised release, and Marc was sentenced to two years.

Sorrentino was also ordered to complete 500 hours of community service and was given $123,913 in restitution, which he has already paid, plus a fine of $10,000.

He’s been focused on his future as he prepares for prison, marrying college sweetheart Lauren Pesce on Nov. 1, 2018.

He looks forward to completing his sentence and coming home to Lauren, family and friends,” a rep for Sorrentino previously told PEOPLE.

Sorrentino posted on Twitter his prison mailing address for fans to contact him at:
