Not so much that the character was poorly written but the actor/actress didn't fit in at all?

Mike Farrell on MASH. Replacing the wonderful Wayne Rogers with a different type of partner for Alan Alda wasn't a bad idea. It's just that Farrell was spectacularly unfunny. He could handle the serious moments, but was awful at comedy.

David Groh on "Rhoda" was another capable actor who threw off the timing of the show because he just wasn't funny.

I disagree. I'll never understand people saying Mike Farrell wasn't funny on M.A.S.H. I think he was just as funny as everybody else on the show. Different strokes for different folks sometimes I guess.

Kimo Carew on original-recipe Five-O in its last season (1979-80) (William Smith); IMO, he was a poor replacement for the late James MacArthur, who had left after 11 seasons there (his last one being 1978-79)

I've never met a single person who said they had a genuine laugh at anything Mike Farrell ever did on MASH. He was awful. On the other hand, Harry Morgan was a great replacement for McLean Stevenson...he excelled at both comedy and drama.

Well now you have, OK so we haven't met in person but you know what I mean. I got genuine laughs watching Mike Farrell on M.A.S.H. I think he was good at being funny and dramatic. I'm just sorry that you don't feel the same way. I think you're missing out but whatever I'm not arguing about it anymore.

Paul Schneider's charecter on Parks and Rec in season 1 and 2. I think they were going for him as a straight man/audience surrogate but he never seemed to fit in properly on this show.

Julia Duffy as Alison Sugarbaker on Designing Women. It's not that she's a bad actress, but she just didn't fit in with the show. They tried to do a complete opposite of Suzanne Sugarbaker with having her be a stuffy, conservative snob and it backfired. She had no chemistry with any of the other actresses.

Totally agree. I actually prefer B.J. to Trapper; he had much more dimension and wasn't simply a Hawkeye clone.

The problem with Mike Farrell on MASH is that they would have him deliver Hawkeye-type one-liners that from him, sounded so fake and unnatural.
