Wally and Dudley - Ugh - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Along with a few other season 4 episodes, another not-so-great episode. They bring in that character actor who was mostly on the Donna Reed Show, as a guy who today would be called a dork or nerd, and shame Wally into taking him under his wing. "Dumley", as Eddie called him. Never to be seen again.

One of the better Beaver lines: (Beaver sees Dudley in the overcoat and hat) "Who died?"

I love the episode. Too bad he didn't appear on more episodes.

Jimmy Hawkins played Tagg, Annie Oakley's little brother in the 1950's western series.

I'll buy that. Wally could have straightened him out. They could have had him play piano at future parties.

This is one of my favorite episodes! Dudley should have been a regular character.

Poor Dudley was just a momma's boy. It seems he didn't have a father but I know he did. He acted like he went to some school on another planet. Buchanan High sounded like any other school so why was Dudley so square except he sure could play piano. I guess he was just different.

I didn't think this episode was too bad.You had to feel for Dudley when Eddie was giving him the business.For what it's worth, this show was never quite as good after the Larry Mondello character was gone.

I thought it was Wally that was the Square. Suits and ties for a teenage house party. In the happy days of Chuck Berry and Little Richard, what was that "music" they were Waltzing to?

They were dancing to some generic music the producers didn't have to pay rights to use.

That generic jazzy music was disgusting....they even played it when Beaver was on Teenage Forum when the show opened and on the radio when they discussed the ballgame in Poor Loser. I think Beaver is dancing at the end of Don Juan Beaver to that jazzy music and in Beaver's Record Club. I guess when they're waltzing in Wally and Dudley Mayfield hadn't heard of Berry or Checker.

Granted, it was 1961. They should be Twistin' to Chubby Checker. Hell, Lawrence Welk would have been a step up!

I have to admit I liked when Lumpy kept hounding Dudley to dance at Christine's party and he kept declining. He said "oh come on you'll be dancing with the best dancer." He finally agreed and Lumpy starts to take him in his arms. I did however feel bad for Dudley when he was standing there all alone. I wouldn't have gone without a date.
