Miracles never cease. I did get the 60's version of Life Upon the Wicked Stage, thanks to a generous member of this forum. And, well, one is better than none!

I have that episode too, it was the only one you listed that was actually shown on that Nostalgia TV channel, it had changed it's name to something else by the time it showed the color Honeymooners, but it was the same channel. Anyway it was a good episode, don't understand why it was never released commercially though. Thanks Nostalgia Channel.

MPI is just weird with the stuff they release. They're a little like A&E video in that they are not too selective of source material AND they have to edit things for no reason other than they can.

One day they might release at least part of that missing 1977 Christmas show. Now there's one that's hard to track down, even though its out there.

It is believed that "Life Upon The Wicked Stage" is full of musical clearance issues compared to the other hour ones. As a matter of fact, I remember reading that that episode was scheduled and than cancelled three times on what is now Youtoo America. It finally got cleared to air in syndication.

As far as the other short color Honeymooners sketches go, I somehow managed to call Gleason's daughter. She said that Jackie Gleason Enterprises doesn't have them and CBS does. When I told her that CBS doesn't have them, she didn't know who does. Perhaps they are lost. Perhaps they are under litigation. But, I got told that the chances of those short sketches seeing the light of day are slim and none.

The question come back to where are the whole JACKIE GLEASON SHOW episodes these came from and who owns them (Jackie Gleason Enterprises? CBS? Both?) and where the 2" Tapes and/or B&W Kines might be. For that matter, what is the state/fate of the non-Honeymooners Jackie Gleason Shows From Fall 1966 onward.

I am thinking that since Gleason's daughter told me that JGE doesn't have them and CBS said that they don't have them, they might be lost. BTW, there are a few episodes from the 60s version of the Gleason Show available on eBay and ioffer.

Now since the Jackie Gleason special The Big Sell all of a sudden appeared on kinevideo.net, for all I know that one of these days, one or some or all of those short color sketches may appear out of the blue.

Sounds like a whole season is incomplete. At some point Jackie never got the tapes or kinescopes. (CBS was making kines into the late 1960's) Do we even know what else is missing 1966-1970? How many of the other color non-Honeymooners JGS even exist.

I NEVER trust the networks to know what they hold and not old for out of date material - some of that stuff hasn't been inventoried in decades - and CBS has both storage on the East and West Coasts. CBS THE NETWORK's holdings are not the same as CBS Television Syndication's holdings (The Viacom/Paramount/Worldvision/NTA-Republic-Spelling/Desilu libraries)

There's also the Military Broadcaster AFRTS - who knows what they might hold, if they still hold anything at this point - the source of pre-Burbank TONIGHT SHOWS both as Kinescopes and loads of edited 30-minute radio shows. (The edited radio shows have finally started to circulate among collectors of late)

Yeah, never believe these lost stories. Stuff may be lost, but they're lost "out there", somewhere in the archives, but they're most likely there. Uncatalogued, maybe, but there.

There's a thread here on the board in which someone mentions online programs KODI and Boom Boom and both have access to HUGE libraries of programs.

I seriously doubt that Boom Boom has the unreleased Honeymooners sketches but who knows.

Well.. I now have a more complete Honeymooners collection including the unreleased 1977 Christmas show. It does not feature the curtain call but has the credits as broadcast with the ABC network announcer. Nice!



If I ever get hold of the curtain call for the Christmas show, I'm gonna cut together one complete episode. It really should have been released by MPI.



I doubt it was music rights but more a problem with MPI and the estate of Gale Gordon not being able to reach an agreement. It really is a funny and energetic installment, and I'm glad to have all the material that I've received from generous members of this forum!

Any number of things could have prevented the release of that Christmas show, including the Charles Dickens source material. I don't think Gale Gordon's estate has anything to do with it as MPI also distributes Here's Lucy. As for the short color sketches, they're more than likely in the Gleason archive and his daughter just doesn't know it. Gleason Enterprises licensed a clip of George Carlin from a January 1969 show to MPI for a DVD release years ago, and MPI originally planned to use those short sketches as extras for the reunion DVDs, so CBS having the rights makes no sense.
