"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Getting New Book Series from Simon Pulse

Get ready to clear your calendars, Buffy fans — a new book series based on the television show is coming your way.

EW can exclusively reveal that Simon & Schuster’s teen division, Simon Pulse, will publish a new spin-off series of the cult classic television show that will be written by New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White. The series, which will be published in the fall of 2018, will be titled Slayer and will feature a brand new slayer from the group of potentials that Willow used her Wiccan skills to awaken in the show’s final episode.

The author of the upcoming books is no stranger to teen literature having penned the And I Darken trilogy and the YA fantasy series Paranormalcy. “I’ll be honest: when I got the offer to write Slayer, I totally screamed,” she tells EW. “It scared my children. I’m not sorry.”





With "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" having just celebrated the 20th anniversary of the show’s premiere on March 10, it couldn’t be a better time to feed hungry fans.

Simon Pulse is familiar with the demographic, having previously published series of authorized Buffy the Vampire Slayer Watcher’s Guides during the show’s original run.

On October 3, Simon Pulse is also set to release Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Twenty Years of Slaying, a special hardcover collector’s edition that highlights all the best content from Volumes 1–3 of the original Watcher’s Guides, as well as exclusive new content, including never-before-seen interviews with the cast and crew.





“We have always had a special affection for Buffy at Simon Pulse, as evidenced by our long publishing history with the brand,” says Liesa Abrams, vice president and editorial director of Simon Pulse.

“Kiersten White, whose work we deeply admire, is the perfect author to write an original series set in the Buffyverse. We couldn’t be more excited to have Kiersten on board to bring her skill and passion for Buffy together with one of the most influential properties in popular culture.”



And for her part, White (who was a big fan of the show in high school) is just as excited to be involved.

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s influence on my own writing can’t be underestimated,” the author tells EW. “When my agent asked if I was interested, I basically said, ‘Every book I’ve ever written was an audition for this.’ It’s still stunning to me that I get to contribute to a world that has been part of my imagination for more than half my life. Dreaming up my own slayer is one of the most surreal experiences of my career so far. I’m so excited to share her with diehard Scoobies and new fans alike!”
