I'm now re-watching TAXI now as an adult.

As a child it would come on right around bed time as my parents would make me go to sleep. So I often have fond nostalgic memories of the opening theme song since that would literally be the last thing I hear before falling asleep.

I'm now re-watching or quite frankly watching for real the first time on Netflix. Right now they only have the DVDs not the streaming and it seems like they are missing season 3 so it jumps from season 2 to 4. So I guess I missed out on season 3.

But now watching the show as an adult I see that the show was really great. The writing was excellent back then with so many character backstories and compelling scenarios that they get them into. I see a lot of boxing stars and former famous athletes from the 70's doing cameos. I see that most of the guys dread being a taxi driver but they all kinda accept the fact that its their destiny or at least a means of surviving (paying rent, bills, etc).

I'm only on season 4 disc 2, but again I missed all of season 3 since Netflix doesn't carry that season for some reason?

I think TAXI has the best sitcom theme song of all time. I can listen to it all day on repeat literally!

Did I miss a lot in season 3? I'm sure I did. I don't really care for Christopher Lloyd's character Jim. He seems to be always drunk or hungover and when he speaks he's always like congested and clearing his throat all the time? WTF? Did he have like really bad allergies in real life or something?

What are some of your favorite episodes?

Default Welcome to SOL, MrCharmingMan!

Major TAXI lover here.

One of my favorite moments was when Louie was negotiating how much money he could get out of Jim's wealthy father after he inadvertenly burned down Louie's apartment.

My favorite episode is probably "The Great Race" from Season 2. Alex and Louie have a contest to see who can earn the most money in one shift.
Do tips count?

Of course they do!

I am so glad you love it.

One of my favorite sitcoms of all time, they had a few clunkers here and there but for the most part they were consistently excellent.

I love imitating Carol Kane as Simka.

Every now and then I'll say "Bye-Bye" just like Latka. Of course, I don't think anyone I'm saying that to knows who I'm impersonating.

Jim is featured in several of my favorites - how he..um.. got that way, getting his driver's license, and Gary. And, of course, Louie's apartment.

So Jim's father is wealthy? Why does Jim appear to be a step above being homeless then? Why is his apartment so crappy?

Would you say Balki from Perfect Strangers is a total rip off of Latka? I mean he's damn near a carbon copy poor mans Latka right?

"Tank you veddy much" for sharing that.

"Eeebie dah" (all purpose word in Latka's unnamed language)

Jim's priorities and lifestyle changed when he spent years as a stoner. His attractive college room mate got him started on a pot brownie and he went from straight laced rich kid to a straight up bonkers Reverend of his own
Church of the Peaceful". He was introduced as the guy who married Latka and a prostitute so Latka could get his green card. His appearance was so successful that they made him a regular cast member.

I remember that episode Latka has to marry a pros to stay in the USA. I don't remember the episode where they explained Jim's backstory though? Does it come in later on? I'm only on Season 4 disc 1.

I don't remember seeing anything about Jim eating a pot brownie or him being in college or an attractive college room mate?

Also doesn't Andy's alter ego start showing up soon? I haven't seen him yet?

From my memory Jim's back story and Vic Ferrari both show up in season 3.

The pot brownie stuff comes from season 4 when all the cabbies describe the turning points in their lives in "The Roads Less Traveled" with newly created flashbacks. One of the funniest 2 parters ever.

No, Tony Clifton never shows up. He was supposed to in the season 1 Christmas episode, but was infamously fired and replaced.
