Former Boston drummer Sib Hashian died after collapsing during a performance Wednesday. He was 67. Hashian was playing a show aboard the Legends of Rock Cruise ship when he collapsed, TMZ reported, according to the musician's son. Attempts to revive the drummer with CPR and defibrilation were unsuccessful, a witness told the gossip site. Hashian, who drummed on Boston's first two albums, was one of several classic rockers to be performing on the Legends of Rock cruise, which took sail last Saturday out of Miami and included checkpoints in the Bahamas and Puerto Rico. The cruise's website listed Foreigner singer Lou Gramm, David Marks of the Beach Boys and John Elefante of Kansas, among others, as other artists on the ship. The cruise will continue in the wake of Hashian's sudden death, and the rest of the performers are set to put on a tribute in his honor on Thursday evening, according to TMZ. Hashian joined Boston in 1975 as a replacement for original drummer Jim Masdea following a request by Epic Records to change the group's drummer. Hashian was added to the group ahead its acclaimed debut album, "Boston," which featured the band's biggest hit "More Than a Feeling" as well as other major tracks like "Peace of Mind" and "Foreplay/Long Time." He left the group before the release of the band's third album, "Third Stage." Hashian's daughter, Lauren Hashian, has a 1-year-old daughter named Jasmine with actor Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson. |

It looks like another long list of rock and roll obituaries this year.
I remember having a poster back in my teens of Boston. He looked pretty cool on his drum kit. |

Sad to hear this news about Sib, great drummer on those first two Boston albums. Brad Delp has passed away also a few years ago.
Boston will always be known for their legendary first album. The follow up album, Don't Look Back is good but uneven, the A side is great but the B side stumbles a bit. Don't Look Back is also a short album, only about 32 minutes. The B side needed a 5th track but the record company was rushing the band to get the album out because it was already late in being released. Then it took the band 8 more years to get the next album out, titled Third Stage. 8 years between albums is too long a time. By the time Third Stage was finally released, many music fans were losing interest in Boston and the band was mostly an afterthought. |
