Ted Baxter as a Game Show Host - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I just watched the episode, "Ted's Moment of Glory," and I wonder if anyone else found it kind of sad.

I found it sad that Lou and Mary talked Ted out of accepting a job offer that could have been perfect for him. Ted was never really smart or informed enough to be a good anchorman, and as long as he stayed at WJM, he was bound to remain the butt of everyone's jokes and always struggle to be taken seriously. However, he could have made a great game show host with his childlike enthusiasm, the answers on the card in front of him, and his glossy looks. He clearly loved the Steeplechase game and felt proud while doing it, and he would have made a lot more money. Other people working on a game show would not have looked down on him for working on a game show.

I think it was a great missed opportunity for him, and it makes me sad that he was essentially shamed out of taking it by people who would then turn around and shame him for not being good at what they insisted he continue to do.

I always skip over this episode because the plot is to stupid.

An anchorman auditioning for a game show???

Also you know how its going to end.

By this point in the series, there is way too much Ted and Georgette.

My thoughts as well.

Mary, Lou & Murray long wanted Ted out. They considered him a buffoon and a "preposterous" character.
The one chance he has to leave, Lou makes him stay.
