Default Neat Things You Realized About UM on Amazon Video

Here is a list of things I found out about UM after watching the Amazon Video version. I did not notice these things on the Lifetime airings of UM. Also, keep in mind I did not start watching UM until 1996 so I missed the bulk of the NBC airings.

1) Lifetime cut out over 50% of The Harold & Thelma Swain segment when they aired it. I remember seeing this segment on that forbidden website and it only ran for 8 minutes. On Amazon this case runs for over 16 minutes!!!!!!!!

2) The picture quality on Amazon Video is really good!!!!!! When I watched the first couple minutes of the Kenneth Dungee segment aka Racist Hit n Run. I was able to read an Exit Sign in the background.

Guess What!!! this case was not filmed on I-40 near Greensboro NC where the Hit n Run takes place. It was actually filmed near Benson, NC a good 100 miles away from Greensboro.(still used I-40 though) When you watch this segment on AV you should be able to see a sign for Exit 319-NC Route 210 Smithfield-Angier. If you google map it then the nearest city is Benson. I never saw this on the Lifetime TV broadcast or on that secret internet source!!!!!

3) I wish Filmrise did not mess with the Lifetime ending of the Kay Hall case. I think it is VERY SCARY when the segment ends on Lifetime. In that version, you are listening to soft, nearly soothing music while seeing a portrait of Kay & Bob and THEN all of a sudden the music stops and you hear Robert Stack's eerie voice "Bob Hall was convicted of murder in 1990."

What are some unique things to you (or things you don't remember seeing from the Lifetime airings) that are present in the Amazon Version of Unsolved Mysteries?

I haven't watched the Amazon versions myself, but Lifetime did edit out a lot of material from certain segments to either squeeze in updates that were not a part of the original broadcast and/or to fit more commercials into the hour time slot. Fortunately, Amazon does not have those kind of constraints.

I have noticed quite a bit...most I can't think of right now, but here's a few:

1. In the Jeremy Bright segment, there is some parts of the interview with his mom that are extended, which is always interesting to hear. I am sure there are others that are extended as well.

2. Yes, the clarity. I can now actually pause the show and read the newspaper articles when they are shown on the screen.

3. One thing I have noticed from watching so many of the UM volumes, is that, now when I watch a case, I always expect a certain case to be after it, but that is no longer how it is, it's just so ingrained in me, ha!

We have an entire thread from a couple years ago where we tried to list all the noticeable cuts Lifetime did to the NBC segments and it went on and on and on. Some of the most memorable segments like Cindy James, Judith Hymes, Brad Bishop and others were included among them.

I'm surprised about the Harold and Thelma Swain segment being as butchered as it is. I may have to sign up for the free 30 day trial on Amazon.

The neatest thing for me is that even though I'm 36 now, the theme song still gives my chills and watching late at night still gives me the same scared feeling it did when I was 13.

I have the Alcatraz segment on the DVD. With the notable omissions of the swim and other escape attempts mentioned, there's a few interviews that were cut from the DVD release. Though, the guy who swam from Alcatraz to the beach, is the current organizer of the Escape From Alcatraz triathalon. He's been swimming from the island competitively since the late 70's.

Isn't there a thread around here somewhere, where we've detailed much of what was cut from syndication?

I think it was this thread, correct?

I always thought the area looked more like outside of Raleigh than the Triad area (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point). I live off of Exit 312, which is the exit before 319, so I'll try to ride out there soon and see if I can get some pics of how it looks today.

I imagine it was filmed there because it would have been easier to block off that portion of the highway while they were filiming. I'm not sure that I-40 Bypass was finished when they filmed this segment, and if not then they would have definitely disrupted a large amount of traffic in the Greensboro area.

Most importantly, I'm glad to discover that JoCo has a UM connection now!

Yes, I just finished watching the Kecksburg UFO incident and realized Don Brockett a.k.a. Chef Brockett from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood has a decent amount of camera time in that segment. Love all these memberries.
