Biggrin Bling Bling Day

How many of you will be celebrating Mardi Gras tomorrow? I call it Bling Bling Day because People go nuts trying to catch beads that are tossed out the floats in the Parade in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. The ones I catch will become Garlands this Christmas.

I've never thought of using the beads as Christmas garlands. That's a cool idea!

I usually eat the traditional foods of Fat Tuesday...paczkis for breakfast...'po boy for lunch...gumbo/jambalaya for dinner...and another paczki to end the day!

Oh, it is Mardi Gras today! Dang, I can't believe that I forgot!

This day is mostly known for one thing here in Sweden: eating semla. Semla is a wheat bun with whipped cream, icing sugar and almond paste, that we traditionally eat on this day (but nowadays, people will often cheat and eat them as soon as they can get hold of them).

But this day has also been a popular occassion for ski trips.

Furienna, your Semla, is similar to New Orleans French Quarter "Beignets".
Beignets, (Ben-Yays) are essentially, square shaped, fried doughnuts, sprinkled with powdered sugar. Very tasty!

I LOVE beignets and I started getting interested in New Orleans cuisine when I saw Disney's The Princess And The Frog and I admired the way Princess Tiana cooked tasty food. I made beignets for Thanksgiving and they came out really cool and then I made jambalaya too which is also good tasting as well. If you want to make the same foods for Mardi Gras the cookbook I use is called Tiana's Cookbook Inspired By Disney's The Princess And The Frog and it has lots of New Orleans recipes to try
I'm glad you shared the info on beignets with me MISST3

I purchased four boxes of Packzies on Tuesday and donated them to a soup kitchen in New Smyrna Beach. Yesterday the lunch at this soup kitchen served a meatless beef and bean Burrito lunch, Another Church in Samsula served spaghetti for supper. Wh
with the exception of , I'll be eatng a Rib Roast in honor of him March 4 (It's the 21st anniversary of my father passing away ) and March 17 (I just gotta have my Corned beef and Saurkraut, not to mention all Reuben Burritos I'll be making the leftovers! ). I'll be adding Meat to my "Lent List" (I have enough Pasta to sink a ship!).

I love the Bavarian Creme ones...especially if they have chocolate on top!

The next time I'll have a paczki is on Dyngus Day...the day after Easter!
